Dear RVer . The Lighthouse used to be there, but they moved it down to where it is at because it was sliding down the hill a couple years ago when we got so much rain! And the research building Fred Telonicher is an extension of Cal Poly Humboldt. Very cool small museum to check out hopefully next time you see it! So Happy Independence day! Hope you enjoyed the Humboldt County experience! We love it here!

Beautiful video Russ. More memories of the road trip I took in 1975 with my parents. We were heading south, going from Portland to Phoenix, and I can remember us pulling over to the side of the road and walking around as well. There's nothing quite like walking through the giant trees. I don't recall the Paul Bunyan tourist trap. It must have come along later. Happy Fourth and thanks again for the memories.

Wish I had found the oceanside beach 40 years ago. Only saw the ocean from the PCH. At least I was there with you.

Russ, another one of your better videos. The Trinidad beach made me feel like I was there and I like that feeling. Trinidad's residents have some really colossal rocks. I bet that restaurant must have some good crab meals. Again the videos of the redwoods were special with the trees growing so close to each other. I bet the smell of the redwoods were outstanding.

Kudos to your KZread Channel, Russ! Happy Independence day to everyone! As for redwood trees, they need a lot of moisture, which is why they grow in northern CA and OR. Northern CA, OR, and Washington state have a lot of rain because the rain comes down off the Berring Straight. I believe that I'm correct about that, if not oh well I don't know everything. Really enjoy the time capsule where I’ve been 20 years ago. They did move the replica lighthouse used to be up at the park. Orick also has a place called Fern Canyon. That’s a nice little hike through. The Paul Bunyan place in the redwoods, has a gondola ride. That’s well worth to take the sky view through the redwoods.

Thanks so much for this tour portion, we moved to Texas, have missed seeing fig and hearing the Pacific Ocean and the magnificent Redwoods. Appreciate your tours!

Hey Russ, it's nice spend a little time with you on the coast to cool off, virtually speaking (it's currently 100 degrees here in San Jose 🥵) Trinidad is a neat spot. I always stop at Katy's Smokehouse (left turn at 3:47) to get some salmon or albacore. The hike up to Trinidad Head is worth the effort if you're so inclined, there are some really nice viewpoints along the trail to the top. I think Drury Scenic Parkway though Prairie Creek rivals Avenue of the Giants when it comes to a spectacular drive through a redwood forest. The Corkscrew Tree is my favorite along that stretch--the turnout is easy to miss, but it's worth seeking out. There are more really impressive trees in Jed Smith State Park, but you're going to miss those when you stay on 101 going up the coast. Trees Of Mystery -- sure, it's a tourist trap/"kids place", but if you're a true road-tripper you owe it to yourself to check it out. $30 seems a little steep, but it's $25 for seniors (like us 🙂), and it includes the Sky Trail Gondola ride, which is pretty cool. Onward to Crescent City and Oregon...happy trails!

Hope you’re going to stop at the Curley Redwood Lodge in Crescent city. Amazing, the entire lodge and furniture was made from one Redwood tree.

Russ I have been to the trees of mystery twice and it is a well worth place to see! lots of biG trees (one is called the cathederal tree) they hold weddings in it! also there is a tram that gives you a really nice view of everything, well worth it and definitley not a kids place!

Trinidad has some amazing history. Its full of too many short term rentals, kinna ruined the old hippie fisherman vibe. Anything Above the harbor w view is $1.5 - $4million. Its still seems to have a strong family root culture. I always stop on the way down to civilization from CC to get a coffee and just explore by walking. Such a beautiful hill.
