@@callyclarinet You make the clarinet look and sound so easy. The great Jazz clarinetist Buddy Defranco called it his " Agony Pipe". I've been using Venn synthetic reeds on clarinet. Have you tried them? I will never use a cane clarinet reed ever again. They project, they last for months and months, They're always ready to go. They never warp, they sound as great at the gig as they do at home. How many times have I spent hours adjusting reeds that sound great at home, you get to the gig and they're horrible. They look and feel like a cane reed. I've tried other synthetic reeds and really just a piece of plastic. No I don't work for D'addario! Just a suggestion, especially if you're a doubler as I am. Love your channel.

@@barryfleischer6553, no, but I tried a Venn Diagram at work. (just trying to help with responses). Thanks fir the “Agony Pipe” reference, I just bought my first clarinet.. darn, perhaps I should have gone conical bore….

OMG this is so informative!! I've been playing clarinet for 5 years now and some of the "jellybean" keys I've never even used before 😭 This is genuinely super helpful and interesting to learn

Thanks for a great introduction to the trill keys. I think those excerpts were perfect to highlight each. It really is amazing how much you have helped folks like me learn and enjoy the clarinet in a fresh manner. ❤

Very interesting and instructive video. I didn't know about the high C to D trill with the second "jellybean" key. I use the alternate fingering for B-flat quite regularly, because on my clarinet, it produces a better tone.

Thanks for your video! So… my wife and I play daily- she’s pianist I’m clarinet. A song ended on a C above the staff (four measures whole note tied). I don’t know if it was the reed or the day but I was flat! The kind of flat you can get away with on a 16th notes but not 4 bars of tied whole note at the end of the piece & very exposed. I thought, 🧐 what can I do to fix this? The first side trill key (alt Clarion B-flat) brought it up to pitch perfectly. Thanks for your video! It got me thinking.

Thanks for another great video! When you say that you would sometimes use the alternate Bb (A with RH trill key 2nd from the top) in which situations do you think that it might be a good option? I often make a mental note that I'm going to use it but then for some reason I never do in practice.

Ohhh that's a good question, I should have mentioned that! If I have to hold out the note for longer than a couple beats, and it is easy to get to, I will use it... so not too often

Hahaha I'll just stay over here on my lil french system clarinet 😂 no I do not alternate but if I end up with a conductor doing it twice as fast maybe I will need to change technique!
