Trickstab Tutorial: The Matador (and Cornerstab)

Ойындар

G'day all MrPaladin here.
My most reliable trickstab is the matador or the corner stab. As a spy you are often chased by enemies who have spotted you but they are either in melee or on a weapon that is for close range and they chase you down.
Because of this you can use your motion or your environment to pull off a Matador or a Cornerstab.
1: Enemy is chasing you, melee preferred.
2: Stop your forward or backward motion use only strafe.
3: Juke one way quickly then back the other. Juking to your right then back to your left is preferred due to a favorable hitbox on that side of the enemy.
4: depending on your lag you might have to stab before you see their back or see your knife raised. Trust that their back will be there when the server does the hit calculations.
5: Walk away like a boss!
What do we say to the god of death? Not today...

Nathan lol i trickstabbed a pyro that was using a CRITTED PHLOG with my spycicle with 2hp i managed to matador the pyro with 1hp remaining but then i fell off a ledge and my ringer wasnt ready so i knew i was gone, then suddenly, a F2P medic with a stardust crusader random critted me bringing me back to full hp whilst landing on a large ammo pack and getting a kill on a fully charged red medic and a mvp heavy. Thank you medic.

Good examples there, Mr.P. I've gotten more used to a different type of matador, one that involves walking towards the enemy, while you're trying to strafe around him to your left. When you get near melee reach, you strafe right for a split second and strafe to the left again. This often leaves the enemy overreacting to your juke and opens them up for the stab.

Problem with turbine as Spy is the scarce ammount of ammo boxes. There are only two and in the bases, not even the middle where most of the action takes place. The only watch I see favorable is the Cloak n' Dagger which helps you to sneak undetected until their spawn and from there start stabbing people. Dead ringer is effective only if there are no snipers at the back of the flag entrance (theres too much to walk if hit at the middle).

By now I've only once performed a successful corner stab. It happened on 2fort, I was badly blooded by enemy spy and scout, and I was escaping into the corridor from under our right spawn. I knew that scout will probably follow me though and I had no chance to survive by keeping running, so I decided to turn around and fight. And it just happened to happen as I predicted: scout chased me taking corner short, and I managed to corner stab him. I was immediately gunned down by a spy, but this was definitely a moment to remember.

What is really going to make your spying improve is knowing how the hitboxes and lag compensation work. But what's most important is MOVEMENT, sure trickstabs are something essental you must know. But once you've mastered the more basic corner, matador, stair stabs, and also the more advanced ones like reverse/blind variations, c2c, snap n' stab and circle strafe stab(and other ones) next thing to do is focus on movement. Or even before trying to learn any trickstab, focusing on movement is what will keep you alive most of the times, not only that, but in most situations you'll learn to reach an oponent's back without a trickstab, or escape really easily by making the enemy lose track of you. I really recommend watching Slurgi for movement and HU6A and CulRulDud for some less known trickstabs.

I got to get better at these techniques. I've learned to flow across the map and wait for opportunities similar to how you do in these videos, but I don't get near the same amount of kills. I find that where I stab one and get killed by someone else, you manage to trickstab the pursuer and get away. Hopefully getting better acquainted with trickstab techniques will allow me to get out of trouble more often.

I get that your a busy guy but i think that you should give us footage of highlander gameplay or even valve matchmaking. Introducing more people to comp is a great way of expanding the tf2 community. Anyways, nice video
