Love it! My mother taught me (and I don't know why no one ever mentions this) to put on the top sheet upside down, so that when you do the turndown, you can see the beautiful embroidery or whatever edging detail / trim is along the top of that sheet.

Exactly…I do that …I have scalloped edging on my top sheets. Place the top sheet so the scallop faces down -. And when the sheet is turned, the scalloping is facing up and you can see it -instead of the back side of the scalloping -- which completely misses the point. ✨🌞✨

I love this video. I sleep on the most fabulous sheets…all from the closed cotton mills of New England…many with embroidery at the top. I have slept in 5 star hotels and nothing beats what I sleep on. I get them at the goodwill outlets and they are few and far between. I can tell the mill by touch. That is I can feel a Pequot sheet and know it is one before I check the label. I am not rich….but a well made bed with vintage sheets is a pleasure that I doubt even the queen enjoys. I also turn up the electric blanket and the warmth between the sheets is fantastic. I too favor a deep turn down. I notice many old sheets have a sewn turn down with embroidery. Please understand that the key is wonderful percale or muslin. I even mend my beloved Pequots before I throw them out. Btw there are entire blogs devoted to vintage sheets.

It is nice to see a video on how to make a bed. What is a real problem, for me, is when the pillow is showing in the pillowcase. I will only buy pillowcases that have an envelope inside to hide the pillow and it does not come out. Sham have then, I do not understand why pillowcases do not. So when you look at this beautiful made bed from the front then see the pillow showing from the side view I feel it takes away from the aesthetic and over all finished look.

I love percale too. A lot of people confuse the weave (percale, sateen, etc.) with the type of cotton (pima, Egyptian, etc.). I have found the high thread count 100 percent cotton percale sheets at Costco, of all places, to be the best new linens I've experienced. They have that perfect mix of crispness and softness, and they get softer with age. However they don't come in pink, which is my favorite color for sheets. The light blue is lovely, but they seem to have discontinued the pale green shade that's somewhere between sage and new hay.

I have a large Mile mangler and always starch and press my sheets. For me, using a lower thread count allows of the starch to stiffen the sheets and for me, a great feeling like sleeping in a pressed handkerchief. Learned how to make a bed in the military and use a six inch turn down. My pillows are not stacked and do not use square pillows as shown in your video. My preference is a minimum of pillows on the bed, too many pillows are just too prissy for a gentleman's bedroom. Always, white sheets (along with white bathroom linens) is the only way to go in the Primary bedroom suite.

I prefer an European return on my top sheet as it really showcases a deep turndown. I too lament the lack of proper length of top sheets. I'm forced to forego the common full tuck under, instead, the next bedding layer (usually a blanket) is tightly tucked under the mattress, holding both itself and the top sheet in place. I assume sheet manufacturers don't produce long top sheets due to machinery limitations. (?)

Matouk makes most of their sheets 112 long. Even their twin sheets! And I never tuck my sheets or blankets in! My feet feel trapped! And, no matter how cold the bedroom is I prefer to have my feet out from under the bedding--- so having all of that stuff tightly tucked in is not anything i want! The first thing I do in a hotel room is take the heavy spread off and put it in the closet. Then I untuck the bed so whenever I do get in it it will be ready to go!

If you buy good sheets there is plenty to turn down and to tuck in at the bottom, too!! The twin XL sheets by Matouk are 112 inches long, rather than the more standard 80-90inches! But I don't like my top sheets tucked in so they are almost too long. One set I turn down at the top about 2.5--3 feet! The monogramers called me 3 or 4 times to make sure I really wanted the monogram where I said I wanted it--- 12 inches from the end of the sheet! (It is a large monogram.) And I never buy 'sets' of sheets! Rather, I get 2 or 3 top sheets which are randomly rotated from top to bottom. The bottom sheets now never fit the mattress anymore and having custom made bottom sheets made is way, way to much trouble. I have only bought bottom sheets for the past 20-30 years. And I don't tuck them in. They just droop at the corners. Those long, uncut Matouk sheets I use with a few very small safety pins. But as I sleep alone it bothers--- no one! But I do like to mix the colors of the sheets! A white bottom sheet and a light green top sheet, or a lt blue and lt green combo is very nice! To always use the same color of sheets just shows a real lack of imagination, as far as I'm concerned! Sorry, Bunny! Or two white sheets with burnt orange pillow slips! Or striped pillow slips! Mix it up--- some. Have fun! I also use a light lavender sheet with a light blue sheet or a white one. Come winter the colors change to stronger, warmer tones! Or at least one item on the bed is, so burnt orange, celery, plum, etc. To have both sheets and pillow slips all the same color, even if colors are rotated, it would just drive me mad! The uniformity, the lack of creativity, and total absence of any pizzazz is just not anything I would ever waste my time on. Or want to sleep with! And come cold winter I will sometimes use a flannel sheet on the bottom--- only the bottom! I don't like the feel of 2 flannel sheets, and cases!!! It doesn't feel good at all, to me, but a flannel sheet on the bottom only is sort of OK! In Jan and Feb!!! Flannel just has a weird feel! But to each their own!

All so interesting! Please, what is an "uncut" Matouk sheet? And to clarify, you use a flat sheet rather than a fitted sheet for your bottom sheet, correct? Do you merely drape it over the mattress or do you make hospital corners to keep it in place?

@@bethanyanderson1745 my uncut Matouk sheets are just the full length sheets, as sent from them. And yes, I just use a flat sheet on the bottom! Like what do you think they did before elastic??? They used flat sheets! And tucked them in.

@@bethanyanderson1745 I just let the bottom sheet drape over all of the sides of the mattress. It doesn't move around so I don't tuck it it and I now like that loose, draped look. I sleep alone so no need to impress anyone! But even when there were 2 in the bed, it still didn't move around! But a quick tug straightens the bottom sheet out if it needs it. I also have a very heavy, thick wool blanket (king size, folded in half) underneath the bottom sheet for a bit of extra padding. Warm in the winter, cool in the summer! Works great! (More than you ever wanted to know about a strangers bed I bet!) But the old bottom sheets always wore out long before the top sheet. So I started to buy only top sheets! And now what fitted sheet ever fits a mattress anymore? A 'fitted' sheet seems useless to me! So why bother with it? My favorite sheets are either from Matouk or the Italian, 100% linen sheets from Anichini! Every year I buy myself a few pieces for my birthday or Christmas. It is always: From me, to me--- with love!!! Also I never put my sheets in the dryer. I hang them on the line or I put them on my bed, from the washer, to dry in place! You can smooth them out on the bed so well it is almost like they are ironed! And don't use bleach or fabric softener. The fabric softener is made from petroleum and if you read the label it tells you to NOT use it on babies clothing/bedding. Why? Because it makes items MORE FLAMMABLE!!! All you need is a half cup of white distilled vinegar in the rinse cycle! It fluffs up the towels and removes any oders! And it helps remove any soap residue in the cloth. If your cloths are really, really clean they do not smell--- of anything! To be clean means it does NOT smell, in my book. If something smells of anything it isn't clean. Or, what are they trying to cover up with this fragrance??? And don't use bleach. Borax and wash soda will keep or make your whites---- WHITE! (Too much Bleach will yellow white cloths!) Then use the vinegar in the rinse water and you will have one very clean, sanitary, non smelling, load of laundry! I only use the dryer to dry my t-shirts because I like them snugged up. That's it! Everything else is dried the old fashioned way. And I use the dryer if things look or are full of lint--- like when I forget to take a Kleenex out of a pocket. The air fluff cycle takes lint away, but the cloths or towels are already dry when they go in the dryer. (I save most of my lint for the spring and summer song birds to use to make their nests! They love it! Even the ducks find it and use it for their nests, too. If I have too much I compost it in the garden since it is 100% cotton, wool or linen. Or Kleenex! It seems like almost every animal likes something soft and warm to snuggle with. Except alligators! They are very much against snuggling, from what I can see!) Read the fabric care information in the Anchini web site. Lots of good information in there. And NEVER dry linen in a dryer. Drying it like that damages the fibers.

@@paulortiz2035 - wow, thank you for taking the time to respond so thoroughly. I appreciate it. I dry quite a bit of my laundry over the railing of my indoor balcony. The dryer is harsh on fabrics. However, my sheets are dried on delicate, perhaps i need to rethink that method? I wish I could attach a photo I snapped of a scene from a silent movie playing on my TV. I took the photo bc I couldn't believe that the bottom sheet was left draped over the mattress. Just as you are doing! Of course, hotels don't use elastic bottoms - only have flats - but they’re tuckers. (Lol) I've never heard of Anchini before. Eager to check it out. p.s. might re-think using vinegar in your washer as it can harm belts, rubber, etc. I was told the deterioration happens over time so ppl aren't always keen to vinegar cause and effect.

My thoughts, too. Can always add another set of pillows however for "fill in."

White sheets aren’t an option for me: I’m a gardener- I get bug bites. I bleed on my sheets. It drives me crazy. I want PATTERNED SHEETS. I want soft, beautiful, yummy patterned sheets. I love mismatched sheets. I love a fresh pillowcase every day or every other day & I love a My Pillow after sleeping on down pillows my entire life. Yes. Yes. It’s personal.

What is the point of this video? The video title says “how to make a bed “ and not “ I like my bed like this like this like this......... I thought they actually show you how to make a beautiful bed and not just talking about it.
