I saw a live, impromptu, performance by Mikhail Baryshnikov. I was walking past the practice studio of the Miami City Ballet when all of a sudden Baryshnikov entered the room. The dancers had been practicing a routine that apparently he didn't think they were doing correctly. He motioned for them to stand against the mirrored wall & proceeded to dance the whole routine for them. And just like that, he walked out of the room. "White Nights" was a wonderful movie. The opening sequence was jaw-dropping. And then, when I didn't think it could get any better, he finished the movie with the Kyiv sequence. Wow, just, Wow!

Thank you for the tear inducing ( the music ) compilation of Mishas most magical moments , but when he performed , were they not ALL magical ? His brilliance has and never will be matched despite brilliance in our ballet boys this day It’s his PRESENCE the nuances and musicality or light / shade and on between which made hIm STAND OUT I was lucky to be a young 14 yo aspiring ballerina when he defected and toured Australia . I could watch this beautiful man dance all day long. Cannot tell you how many times I have watch 'White Nights' just to see the glorious dance scenes.

Absolutely well said. His complete control and his “flying” have always fascinated me. No one could ever match him. Peter Martins said in an interview that he was always generous with his talent. He said he would ask him, “Misha, how do you do that jump or spin etc?” He would always say “Come, I’ll show you.” That’s a classy human besides being a magnificent dancer.

The embodiment of Magnificence ! He IS ballet...others just do ballet. I saw him dance with the White Oak Dance Project many years ago. I was spellbound. I floated out of the theatre that night. He touched my soul with his mastery of his body & of dance !

I got his autograph some years ago...nearly fainted!

I did see him perform live - several times - and with his storied partners, Natalia Makarova and Gelsey Kirkland. It’s impossible to describe how I felt the first time I saw him soaring across the stage; I don’t mean to sound dramatic, but my breath really did catch & I knew I was witnessing something extraordinary that could only happen once in a lifetime! I consider myself a very lucky person to have been around during the time of Nureyev, Baryshnikov, Fontaine, Martins, Balanchine & Robbins & many more to witness the abundance of their talent.

El mejor

Sin duda alguna el mejor del mundo un bailarín completo, técnica, interpretación e innovación, el fue superándose con los años, de la mano de sus metas y nuevos retos, pero, amigos míos, esto no fue sencillo, de la mano de todo lo expuesto, hay un enorme sacrificio, es que la danza es una disciplina tremendamente exigente, en él, se combinó el sacrificio de horas y horas de práctica y un inmenso amor a este tan bello arte!! Tuve el orgullo de verlo en el Colón de BAireis!! Inolvidable. Un ejemplo para muchos!!
