Started with the very first one: Starsiege-Tribes. Even worked on a mod for it (made some custom skins). Glad to see it's coming back. Very fun to kill 30 minutes to an hour playing.

I'm pretty sure I've seen you out there in a game or two! And I remember your name on tribaloutpost back in the day for that mod you mentioned Cool to have you back! Hope to see you out there again :}

I just found this game existed a few days ago with the official gameplay from IGN and I fell in love with the game mechanics. I'm a huge fan of the grenade launcher in Halo Reach (Boomball 4 life) and I love the very whack Dino Blasters where you lead shots or die. I knew this game would be for me, I'm in the alpha playtest and I think I won't be disappointed. With the current absence of a tutorial I'm glad you plan on making guides for us no0bes that don't even understand how inertia is so well conserved while sliding uphill lol. Excellent basics guide BTW, your format is well adjusted for newcomers like me and it is well explained. I'm playing the alpha playtest and even if I'm not good with trajectory management yet I know I like this game.

My first game of Starsiege Tribes was the Wireplay Insomnia LAN party where the very first copies of Starsiege universe went on sale in the UK. Ofc there was no copy protection and within minutes the ripped Tribes cd was on the network and everyone was playing it.

Glad the game is back. I hope it sticks. Bigger lobbies would be nice though.

The devs have said they are going to allow community servers that will not only allow you to change team sizes but also game physics as well! Something to look forward to with launch :)

Great tutorial. It’s so nice to see a new tribes game. I use a Mac for work and Xbox for gaming, and I’m trying to figure out if I should get a cheap PC to play this immediately. I want to do everything I can to support a new tribes game (I did the same for Ascend). I was around 11 years old when I started playing Starsiege Tribes in 98-99 and played a bunch of Tribes 2 later. I really liked the Duel game mod in the original, and I think I was the best with the plasma rifle - something about that slow moving projectile made it fun to use and MA with. I think I caught a lot of people off guard with that because I don’t remember it being a very popular weapon.

From what I've gathered about PC spec stuff, most people are upgrading for T3. Even my PC (which I bought everything brand new in 2020) struggles to push 120 fps on low settings. My recommendation, if you're serious about it, is buying something relatively new (last two years) for gpu/cpu and you should be good to go - might last you a few years too, just avoid any GPU that only has 8 GB of VRAM or less, you want more than that. I loved Duel Mod too :} spent a lot of my time dueling or in Arena personally. Plasma MAs catch everyone off guard ;) you're probably 1 in 500 that used it

Great video. I grew up playing Half-Life and if you know anything about Valve's early games, they have Bhopping (bunnyhopping) - a technique used to gain speed through crucially timed jumps and speed-gaining strafes through the air. When I play Tribes III: Rivals, I absolutely love the movement, just like the past games, but I have never figured out a way to strafe through the air while keeping as much velocity as possible. I see you do this at 4:40 while gliding, you are able to turn to the left and use the side of the hill to land and keep your velocity. How are you able to strafe to the left like that?

I have over 10,000 hours in CSGO, so I completely understand your perspective! Transitioning to this technique should be relatively straightforward for you if you're familiar with that series. Around 4:39, right after grabbing the flag, you'll notice that I hit the top of a small hill. Striking that hill doesn't significantly slow me down; instead, it propels me upward and forward at a decent speed while allowing my energy to regenerate. What I'm essentially doing here, post-hill collision, is holding down my left strafe key (A) to facilitate the strafe. In my opinion, the critical aspect lies in hitting that hill. It enables me to maintain my speed, regenerate energy, and initiates a trajectory that's both upward and forward enough for me to strafe effectively. Hopefully this helps! And thanks for watching!

This is very sweet :) Tribes, a love story

Funny how tribes started out with vehicles to help traverse the large maps, yet the ski was a bug and made tribes what it is today. I do miss the vehicles and large maps.

Tribe's One baby is where i started a land party is what they called it and that's where my friends gave me the name LoveTrooper it started on the Broadside map Jumping right in to the fight's over and over and going deep in the base going for the flag and loving every minute of it after 1 hour of this the guy who land party it was walk over to my PC and told me i dub thee LoveTrooper. Now 20 years later o shit it's been that long that should tell other player's how good this game this game started the e sports but it was called the TWL.

The dev team has been very open to trying out new things and seeing how they feel in these play tests. Every build has something that's drastically different than the previous so ya never know.

My mistake, somehow I missed your reply! Noob KZread mistake on my part. With the projectile speed being as fast as it currently is I would say that defense has a huge advantage over offense, especially Cappers. Even without mine discing defense can be overwhelmingly strong if the opposing teams offense isn't coordinated in their attack/disruption timings. Radar is a huge tool for defense to utilize and you can easily track enemy cappers as long as both your Radar and Generator is online. Body blocking from LoFs/MoFs is also is extremely strong - much stronger than it was in Tribes 2 imo. With all of that being said, the Blink Pack on Lights is still a very strong option for Cappers. With the right route, speed & Blink you can bypass most of everything I mentioned above if you're lucky and have good timing. Sorry for the late reply :) went a little in depth there to make up for it. I feel like I've seen your name out there so I assume that PC was booted. Thanks for watching/commenting!

@Vaxitylol what cpu build will I need to run this effortlessly plus Game recording. Man I use to play t1 t2 entirely in shield. Hope they bring it back. Hope I can still solo entire teams again like I use to in t1 arena.

I'm not sure tbh. But its a newer game so if you wanted it to be butter smooth then you would be looking at the higher end market for gpu's and cpu's. From what I've looked into the higher end model GPUs are anywhere from $500-2000 depending on how high you wanna go and CPU ranges around $500 I think too, again depending on how high you wanna go anyway. I have a Ryzen 9 3900x and AMD RX 5700 XT (released in 2019) but my framerate wasn't exactly "smooth" when I was playing - I'd prefer 200+ at all times, but that's me. The game also isn't completely optimized yet so its hard to say really. np

What even is the reasoning behind placing health and energy far apart?

Ya know, I don't think anyone has actually brought that up. Nice eye you got there and previous Tribes games had health/energy stacked next to each other... so I have no idea! Hopefully we can get some UI customization options in the future, that way you could have whatever UI layout you wanted :} - definitely something to bring up

I've started with Starsiege: Tribes. I was a 9-year-old tagging and bagging adults at that time. Always whinned at me for slaying them. OMG! I was killed by a 9 yr old, FML! or in a custom server - Someone ban that 9 yr old off the server... Admin: WHY?! Whinner: he keeps killing me and it's humiliating. Admin: >.> Well, get good mate. The Whole Server: LOL!!!

Wish it felt like actual Tribes "Tribes 3", ctf is not the "main" mode, the game was taken by the community and built upon as they will never let you do. Theres no in game map editor, no in game chat, no in game IRC server for your tribe to communicate, you wont ever get player made mods, or sound packs, reticle's, so on. They already confirmed they arent going to actually build upon it anymore and give us a actual full Tribes game. It was the best FPS ever, with so much more game play then they will give you anymore.....Dynamix made an irreplaceable game. T1 still has a huge Discord server, and play regularly.

CTF is the main mode in Tribes 3 The reality of modern games is that everything is done in-house rather than community made - but ya never know, I wouldn't count it out completely for the future. Tribes 1 & 2, while great, are relics of the past that had their time. Nothing is wrong with enjoying those relics though, I still actively play T2 for example, but I think it's more important to embrace the present than hold onto the past. The idea that Tribes 3 should be a carbon copy of the versions that came before it isn't a good thing - just hinders new players from giving it a fair chance. However, I would really love an in-game chat system, community made maps & skins, and the like too.

Video is inaccurate now. Might have been accurate a month ago or so. You ski up hills and jet at the apex when your feet leave (or are about to leave) the ground.

Actually, it was the same way when I made this video. The jumping off hills then jetting at your apex, totally the same. I didn't include it because everything is subject to change with T3 being in Alpha, so I wanted to stay with the core fundamental principals of skiing and gaining speed in Tribes. More or less I wanted to make a tutorial video that could persist through any/most of those changes :) if that makes sense. I had planned on an "advanced movement" video later on once everything was more solidified, but good on you for figuring it out!

@@Vaxitylol That's fair. It's just super frustrating to be out of jets by the time I'm at the top of the hill because I was under the impression I had to jet up instead of ski up then jump/jet.

Technically, at the beginning of any route you still need to jet up steep inclines because you haven't gotten enough speed yet - I do this specifically on inclines where I'm trying to reach the height ceiling. Mid route, once you've built some momentum, you use your energy less often and in some cases not at all. Within that context, this video is still accurate but I agree its missing the piece of the puzzle that is jumping. I apologize for any confusion though. If it looks like the jump mechanic is here to stay within the next few builds I'll probably end up updating this video.

@@VaxitylolT:A still had an insane skill ceiling, that’s why it didn’t survive. If T2 is even more difficult to get bearings for, then it’s bound to die in this gaming era. A T:A-Like game is what the Tribes franchise needs to succeed in today’s day and age.

This needs to be a lot, lot, lot more concise. In a tutorial it does not matter that you're telling the audience you've been playing this for 20 years, or that you're pumped to share information.

I've added Chapters to make it easier to sift through the video! Hopefully that suffices. Past that the "lore" of Tribes, or how loved the Tribes series is, might be important information that a new player might want to hear if they've never heard of or played Tribes before. From what I've seen, most tutorial videos are an in depth dive into the game in its entirety that can range anywhere from 20 minutes to over an hour. We're just working with an Alpha, so I wanted it to be about the basics of Tribes and how to get started regardless of whatever changes might happen before launch. Anyway! I think Chapters will do nicely here. Thank you for the feedback :)

This is what I love to see/read! Thank you! "You don’t have to watch the end if you don’t want to lol" truth 😉 Some people are just very picky I suppose or just want the technical tutorial video without the extra bits at the start and end - totally understandable.

I think a lot of older fans have slept on this release. numbers are down, but the game is good. OK, no vehicles and the bases are a bit spartan, but it's still early access. I bought it and I'll enjoy it as long as it's around, I guess. vgw vgw vgw

That’s how I feel about it. It’s fun Tribes game in 2024. I’m here to enjoy. And truly I think most older fans don’t even know it’s out. Vgw either way :)
