This person posted on reddit about how stephanie hadn’t responded to their emails or comments requesting the video being taken down, she didn’t see them but once she saw the reddit post she reached out to remove out. but just imagine, don’t act like you wouldn’t feel offended cause i certainly would.

1 million people marched in peaceful protest against president park and her apathy about it all. The families created a charity society for truth and a safer Korea. BTS secretly donated $300k to that fund (which at the time was ⅓ of their income that year) & met with the families of victims. There was a government blacklist of celebrities who spoke up about the injustice and corruption. 10k people were on that list, including the director of the movie parasite. BTS had to wait til 2017 to put out spring day, when the ferry was salvaged. When you watch the mv for spring day, please watch the explanation by Italian army. There's so much symbolism related to the ferry disaster, you gotta see her point them out to catch them all. Even the clock on the wall, Jin inserting a coin into a washing machine, it's all related. It's a beautiful song, and they did an amazing job with that mv! It's such a tragedy . I remember when it happened. My husband and I were like wtf?! Because the news at the time was so sketchy and conflicting. Thanks for watching this. 💜

I offered a little more info, and if you like BTS or not so be it, but it doesn't change the fact that the mv they made to go with their song about missing friends and loved ones was a lovely tribute and reminder to "never forget" as they even say in the mv. It's not like I went on some random tragedy and irrationally threw BTS in there, , SHE mentioned them in the video. jeez. Why are you so concerned that told a relevant story that just so mentioned BTS, who were also Relevant? Hope you have a genuinely good day.

I think doing spring day now would be good even if it is out of order. It’s just so heartbreaking and watching it now when you’re already in this funk is better then being hit with it again later. BTS not only made spring day but also donated money to the foundation that was owned by the parents… in secret because anyone who showed support and called out the negligence from the government were blacklisted at that time. So yeah, not only did BTS go out of their way to support the victims families but also could’ve been blacklisted from the industry. I adore the boys and spring day, which has never left the Korean charts since it’s release in 2017. I’ve watched a lot on this incident and it just gets more infuriating and sad. Its terrible to think about, let alone the victims family and friends living through this.

Agreed. This is a tragedy where the culture itself is kind of to blame. Where "the government is correct, and we must agree with them because they silence those who don't." I mean, look at all the crap the government did to hinder the rescue, even when there was a chance to evacuate the passengers they were continuing spreading rumors and lies. And they responded with surprise when no one was buying their bullshit or called them out on it. Blaming the victims is stupid, it's the whole system that's broken. Yes, these students could have thought independently, but how can they when their government criminalizes that very action and has done so for generations?

What I find insane, every time I watch a doc on the tragedy, is that they thought that the deaths of over 300 people is nothing compared to their reputations. If they had asked for help, they would have been praised for their quick action. No one would have question it, but instead here we are almost 10 years later. That reputation is forever damaged and it doesn't matter who is in power the stain is there.

THIS! The US had been chill with South Korea for years at that point. They had ships just kicking it in the Yellow Sea! They could have helped with no hesitation. As many flaws as the US has, one thing it has always had down in military training and expertise. My father is an Air Force Veteran, and he told me that the entire military has one thing in common from navy to marines to Air Force to coast guard: Train with the odds stacked heavily against you. All of their training missions are done with the odds NOT in their favor. They train for the worst. Starting a rescue mission with more trained professionals than there are people to rescue with during the first hour is odds stacked heavily IN their favor. Those ships have EVERYTHING! Food, blankets, medical supplies and staff that are trained to deal with traumatic injuries like bomb detonations (so things like crushed limbs from cargo falling doesn’t necessarily mean that person dies). And most of those boats don’t travel alone. They’re usually in a fleet of 3 or 4, so that means hospital transport in extreme cases could have been possible. And THAT’S JUST THE US! I know Japan and Korea have a very rough historical relationship, but at a time like that, any and all help should have been welcome. I can’t think of a time where a country was ever criticized for accepting help from a known friendly country. Especially with the way the US loves to have their nose in everyone’s business.

Rotten Mango pretty much summed up horrifying details of the event well. But honestly, as terrible as the details she's providing are, let me just say, Tribe Loui, the documentary of the Sewol Ferry Tragedy is so much more difficult to watch in full. To try to absorb what your eyes see: the tormented, helpless parents (some of whom reportedly committed suicide); the traumatized but honorable divers, driven by the strength of their wills, who could do nothing but try to at least recover as many bodies as they could, but only after-the-fact (some divers reportedly lost their lives after making too many dives); the desperate civilian fishermen, frantically risking their own lives to save as many as they could (imagine their shock, realizing they were the only ones really doing anything at all); the memorial wall lined with a mountain of flowers beneath the portraits of each victim... And then there's the available footage (on KZread, last I checked) that the father of the boy who filmed his experience and gradual final moments alongside other students on their deck, while remaining in their tilting cabins that was quickly filling with water. This young boy (who his father described as athletic) was turning into a man in those final moments of his young life as he came to realize that he was in a Titanic situation, and bravely began recording his goodbyes to his family. I'm not much of a cryer, but all this footage destroyed me to watch. Like you, I wanted to look into this tragedy because of how it related to "Spring Day". But then it felt like the least anyone can do now is to watch the actual documented events out of respect to the memories of all who did not survive, those who had survived, and the broken-hearted loved ones left behind....all those voices who were not heard or respected out of astounding negligence, self-serving entitlement and a despicable level of utter greed. 💔 Thanks for taking the time to react to this very important story as it's being told, Tribe Loui. Your kind soul keeps me with you... you're good peeps💜

This was so hard to sit through. I don't think there is an ARMY that hasn't looked into Sewol because of the Spring Day video, but Stephanie and the Rotten Mango channel gave information I wasn't even aware of. There are not enough words to describe how heartbreaking this tragedy was. Greed is and still sacrifices and tramples, South Korea is not the only example of this... America does it every time there is a mass shooting and those in power who are payed by the NRA refuse to put in regulations. Instead you have states like Texas who get rid of even needing a gun license. S. Korean President Park was apparently not against blacklisting any and everyone who went against her or her policies, that BTS and I'm sure many others gambled on when their time could be censored. It was also later found that Big Hit donated money to the families of those involved with this tragedy. Mind you, this was before they became the multimillion dollar company they are now.

I love Rotten Mango but I put off watching this one because I knew it was going to be rough. After hearing BTS' "Spring Day" for the first time and learning what it was about, I was already devastated. But when I saw your video, I decided to watch with you. It was easier "having company" but I still had to pause and take breaks four times because I kept getting so angry. It's not often you see gross incompetence on that kind of scale. I lived in New Orleans for almost a decade and it reminded me of a few years ago when the Hard Rock Hotel being built in the French Quarter started collapsing, killing three construction workers and injuring many others. One of the bodies was recovered after a few days, but the other two remained inside that partially collapsed building for TEN MONTHS while city officials argued over how to deal with the unstable structure. Family members could literally be across the street knowing their loved one was in there, but they couldn't get them to lay them to rest. We all had to walk or drive by this building knowing there were two dead bodies in there, and that the structure could finish collapsing at any moment. Definitely not the same scale as far as the amount of lives lost, but still ridiculously incompetent in handling the aftermath. It always comes down to people being greedy, and then not wanting to take responsibility.

Um the only thing is that Spring Day wasn't directly inspired by this tragedy. Namjoon has previously shared that he wrote it in a park after seeing a leaf fall from a tree. The timing of the song coincided with this tragedy and struck a note with the Korean population since it's a song about missing your loved ones. It's always been speculated that the music video has references to the tragedy, but I don't believe that's ever been explicitly confirmed? Regardless, it has references to Omelas and the song references Snowpiercer, both of which have some parallels to the kind of greed and lack of empathy that resulted in the ferry tragedy. BTS /did/ get put on a blacklist by the government at that time, along with some other celebrities, for donating to the victims' families. As with many of their donations, they did so privately but it was reported on and they confirmed it after the fact. It later came out in 2020 that BTS had actually personally met with those families during mourning. BTS were only in their second year after debut at that time, and so the families worried they would be blacklisted so they prayed for them. It's very touching, BTS have always cared more about doing what's right than about optics.

This disaster makes me bawl everytime thinking of the fear and suffering of those victims of this total mass murder. Seeing the water rise to your ankles and going up rapidly, hearing other kids screaming in fear and desparation. Banging on the windows trying so hard to get out of the ferry. Feeling so lonely and betrayed while missing their family members and thinking of never seeing them again while being so scared and frantic. I feel so much sadness and dissapointment to this case. So unfair, horrifying and dreadful to think about and put yourself in their shoes. These children were FAILED. I hope those responsible even a bit for this accident, *no, disaster/murder cant close their eyes without seeing the corpses and fear they caused to these innocent children and their teachers or parents.

YO.... TL!!!!! I'm not supposed to cry today 😭💔. I'm in the middle of celebrating JK's bday 😭 and I'm under the influence of henny and soju 😭. I cried so bad with BTS spring day MV and lyrics and then the explanation video hundreds of time since it came out. And I've also cried to this video twice already and now again 😭I feel my heart not sinking like a heartbreak but it was coming up to my throat where I literally had a ball in there and I literally felt the pain and I couldn't breathe and just cried ugly ugly. But you did make me choke in my tears cause you made me lol when you said anything nice BTS would pop up and say HI ...the hand waved had me too 😅😭 Queen Spring Day will always be at the top!! And ppl need to be aware of this as well. I pray time to time for the families and for anyone that's involved or just hurt by it like you and me. They don't want us to forget especially the citizens of SK so Army or not.. we should never forget.💜🎗 TL do a reaction to BTS Spring day followed by the explanation video.
