Tribal Trails: Can I Befriend the Tribes ? 🇰🇪 vA 72
I ride from Marsabit to a small town called Laisamis, at the border between the Rendille and the Samburu tribes. On the way, I meet a few strange characters.

From Isiolo to Nairobi, the trip may be a bit risky because of increased vehicle traffic and you may need to be more careful. You need something big and reflective so that speeding drivers can see you from afar to avoid hitting you. Have a safe journey.

Actually right now a lot of people are struggling in the country with soaring cost of living. Even in Nairobi, once middle class people have lost jobs and slowly being turned into beggars. In that part of the country, the people are more comfortable speaking their mother tongue than Swahili. Yves so far is lucky not to have encountered armed bandits. That guy ‘demanding’ 200/- and most of his food was the closest thing to that, but fortunately he was not violent when Yves refused to give more than he did. Like most Kenyans, we assume every white person is rich, well at least they are richer than us. So if you are in an arid area, with little or no food and most often associated white people with food aid and tourism, you can see how the guy must have perceived Yves. He was definitely more aggressive in his a approach than most of the other people in the video. Maybe the only other person that came close was that old ‘catholic’ lady - Antonella -looking for sponsorship for her kids/grandkids. Emma was more subtle and strategic in her approach and got a pineapple for her troubles while Antonella received her 5 bananas. So far Yves has caught on the fact that he needs to be prepared for more such encounters in future and bought extra food. Wise move. All in all Epic journey being caught on camera!
Beautiful scenery along the way. Even the roads are in very good shape. Its just a shame that people stop you to ask for money & food. In some parts of the world even the poor will stop you to offer food.

I believe you should assertively decline requests more frequently. By doing so, you also gain some kind of respect. It's a typical behavior to be persistent when you desire something and perceive a possibility of obtaining it. After declining, if the person persists, you have to go, but if they understand, the encounter can become more interesting.

Hey welcome to Kenya, kindly observe road lanes always keep left unless you are overtaking. Your safety comes first some drivers in Kenyans highways are wreckless. Do not keep on stopping to everyone on the road a part from uniformed police officers. Not everyone can give you directions so be selective as you seek assistance.
