Such an honor for Indonesian as Mustafa loves all those 3 dishes. However, Rendang usually tastes salty and spicy, but it's OK you've tried your best. One fact you forgot to tell to Mustafa is, Indonesia is a country with largest moslem population.

He almost always loves the food if he knows it is from a Muslim country. I find him pretty closeminded. Occasionally he surprises, but not often. It is sad that he repeatedly complains about western food being made of too many things. He appears to favour getting bowls of one thing. Yet his own country's food often has multi ingredients. You see it a lot with old men in many countries. In Australia, it's called meat and 3 veg men. They want steak or roast meat with 3 basic veg. No extra spice, no variation. Anything green is boiled until it is grey. No matter what you offer, if it is from another country, it's "foreign muck." Unless it is from the UK. Even America goes too far... They are quite exasperating - but it seems to be found in most old man who haven't travelled, hardly ever gone to big cities and joyfully tried things when young, whatever country they live in. I always have a little bet with myself, when the food is from a muslim country, that Mustapha will claim he loves it.

In Indonesia almost every savoury dish had sambal as condiment, sambal basically paste/sauce/ salsa made from chili as the base and add another ingredient depending on the type of sambal and also we always add something crispy on the dish, it can be fried shallot, cracker, fried peanut, fried soy, fritter, etc

I missed Indonesian food especially Sate, Beef Rendang, Gado-Gado and Sayor Lodeh. I tried to cook Sayor Lodeh one time but it became more like watery veggie curry instead. Nasi Goreng is easy to make but it is not authentic Indonesian version coz i dont have Kecap Manis (Sweet soy sauce). It became more like chinese fried rice. Btw, best place to visit in Indonesia is not Bali but Lombok. Bintan is also not bad

So far the dishes you presented are from west indonesia. East indonesia offer a completely different set of dishes. Totally original and can't be found anywhere else in the world. Please try the following dishes as well. Rawon, gudeg, woku, tahu campur, sago, rujak cingur, coto, bubur manado. And don't worry, all of these foods are hallal. Thank you.

Two weeks ago, I caught Covid. It wasn't too bad, until last. Week. While sick, I had a hard time keeping up with my normal medications. The result gave me insomnia, I didn't sleep at all. I would go to our living room and turn on your channel, as well as the Couple. I want to thank you all. You gave me something to focus on, even when my brain wasn't functioning right. I spent a few days in the hospital and am doing much better. So, thank you for keeping entertained and sane during my Covid journey. I do not recommend it, but I have recommended you channel. I'm Indonesian. thank you for reviewing our traditional dish, but there are a few things I notice here. 1. I'm not sure why the nasi goreng here tasted sour, since I've tried many types of nasi goreng here in Indonesia, but I've never found the sour type. usually, it tastes spicy salty, and sweet, or spicy salty, and smoky. 2. the sate (satay in English) here doesn't look like any Indonesian sate. I've tried Sundanese sate, Balinese sate, Padangnese sate, sate from Makasar, and also the common one from Madura, and neither of them looks like the one you served, especially the sauce. so I'm not sure from which part of the Indonesian sate you have there. 3. and for the rendang. its usually tastes salty and spicy, but we have one which taste sweeter also, but we usually use brown sugar for the sweetener, so the visual usually dark brown-ish.

@@nvfthd I also have tried taichan before, but the one i had didn't look like this one, especially the taste description from one of the reviewer, which he said "little bit sweet" while the one i tried tastes salty and bland. well, it could be the one i tried is just not a good one even though its from the popular shop nearby, i'm not sure. 😅
