    Easier way to solve the problem at 30:00..... whenever the altitude is drawn to the hypotenuse of a right triangle, it is alwasy equal to the geometric mean between the segments in the hypotenuse. So..... CD is the geometric mean of 16 and 4, so CD is 8. Area is (bh)/2.... so the base (16+4) times 8.... and the area is 80.

    By the equations of the equilateral triangle, I do not understand your value i.e Inradius= a/2sqrt(3). Because for me when I look to your drawing, let us call r the small radius, then because the line bisects the angle then we have: tan(30)=r/a/2 =2r/a this implies sqrt(3)/3=2r/a implies the inradus=sqrt(3)a/6 or?

    Hello,During the time frame 6.02 you mentioned that the sum of any two sides of a triangle is always greater than the third side but previously you've mentioned that for an obtuse triangle it is ABSquare+BCSquare

  • @perfectscorespremium

    @perfectscorespremium

    9 жыл бұрын

    Squaring not always result in a greater value. For example 0.5 square is 0.25. In obtuse triangle the square of greatest side is greater and in any triangle sum of any two sides is greater than the third side.

While I tried to solve dividing the height in 2:1 ratio, I got (a root 3)/6 for inradius and (a root 3)/3 for circumradius. Please explain to me how we got to a/(2 root 3) for inradius and a/(root 3) for circumradius. Would help me a lot. Thank you.

    Hey there, at 21:30 you said that an equilateral triangle maximizes area given a perimeter. I thought a right triangle maximizes area?

  • @biggpete100

    @biggpete100

    8 жыл бұрын

    An equilateral triangle maximizes the area. That's true for all shapes.... a regular polygon (all sides equal length) will maximize the area with a given perimeter more than one with sides of different lengths. The way I like to think of it is the "more perfect" shapes hold area and volume more efficiently. BTW, a circle is the shape that has the largest area compared to its perimeter (circumference.)

    analogously for the circumradius, let us call R the other portion of the height, then because the line bisects the angle, we can say than Rsin(30)=sqrt(3)a/6 we know sin(30)=1/2 then R=sqrt(3)a/3

    "A particular case of the Isoperimetric Theorem tells us that among all triangles with the same perimeter, the equilateral one has the largest area. A related theorem concerning the triangles inscribed into a given circle is also true: Among all triangles inscribed in a given circle, the equilateral one has the largest area."

    For the 1st question (2 sides are 2 & 5)...you state that the sum of ANY 2 sides that are greater than the 3rd qualify as being a triangle. But yet you only chose 2 sides that were not going to be more than the 3rd. For example, for option C) 12+5=20...., but you only added 2+5. Why is that? Did you really mean to say that we should add the 2 smallest integers 1st?
