Frank Marshall (November 28, 1883 - May 29, 1959) was born in Mataro Spain to English parents. He studied in the Liceu Conservatory and later with Enrique Granados. He later became Granados’s assistant and sub director of the Granados Academy. Upon the death of Granados, Marshall took over the school and later for legal reasons changed the name to Marshall Academy.
It is unclear when Claudio Arrau came in to contact with Frank Marshall, Mercedes Roldos said he came to the Academy with the idea of learning Iberia by Albeniz and Goyescas of Granados. It appears he arrived in Barcelona late 1934. There is a dedicated picture by Arrau dedicated to Frank Marshall from 1935. It seems he left because of the Spanish Civil War. Up until the early 1950s books 1 y 2 of Iberia as well La maja and el Pelele appeared on his programs.
Alicia de Larrocha y de la Calle ( May 23,1923 -September 25, 2009) and Rosa Sabater (August 29, 1929 - November 27 1983). Were both exclusively formed under the careful guidance of Marshall.
