Trial by turbulence - A380 thrown around but gets through
The only time I've seen the world's largest plane toyed-with by severe weather, and in particular windshear which caused other flights to abort the approach.
The Easyjet A320 simply didn't try again and diverted away.
This was a day when the wind grew stronger as it moved towards crosswind direction, finally erupting as shown here.
The runway having been drenched minutes earlier, the avalanche of reverse thrust spray capped the Emirates giant's performance!
The airport is Birmingham (BHX). The Emirates flight is EK39, on 29th November 2018 as Storm Diana lashed the UK.

The A380 pilot is spot on 👌 he knew how the wind is flowing and he just directed the plane against the wind and just few seconds to touch down....he position the plane on the right course. That is a master piece of work
Embraer and A320: “whoa too windy we’re outta here”. A380: “hold my beer”...
Heavier plane, advanced avionics, skill level of Emirates pilots. Great camera work too.
The advantages of the extra weight. Not getting tossed as badly. Plus a fairly incredible flight system onboard.
A380 pilot was like " what severe turbulence you guys talking about!!??? "
Great job by the A380 pilot, must be quite a thrill wrestling a monster of this size to the ground
Those pilots earn every penny of their salary. Brilliant work.
Really exemplifies the base level of pilot skill needed in order to even qualify to run a A380, let alone pull this kind of boss level navigation…😳 my hats off to you captain, VERY well done!
I flew into Gatwick on that day and filmed it. The nose wasnt even facing the runway until touch down. Its now my most watched video but people keep commenting how it didnt look too bad, obviously the better views are from the ground and not the plane itself.
A pure human/machine symbiotic relationship.
The A380 is a perfect example of a nicely executed crosswind landing.
I have a feeling Emirates not only has the budget for the best airplanes, but also for the best pilots..
aye, that A380 is a thicc lass. She'll put down where she wants to.
A380 handled that turbulence like a boss
That was an absolute perfect textbook crosswind landing.
By far!!
Another reason why I love the Airbus A380 😍😍😍 such a beauty....perfect execution by the pilots there and I loved the stability of the plane. Endurance and reliability is their key selling point..... A380 is and will always be my favorite aircraft.
I love flying with the A380s, they are magnificently stable on take-off, cruise speed and landing.
Big boss is coming to town.
