Goodbye Galaxy was the first Commander Keen game I played. Probably the first decent game on my family's old Compaq. I loved some of the extra details they put in that game. Like that they didn't just mirror the Keen sprites but actually had two full sets for right and left. You could see this because you only ever saw his holster on the right side and whichever way he faced he always shot with his right hand.
Hello, nice review. I love Commander Keen games...
I adored episode 4 as a kid, and I still do today
Thanks for the review! I grew up with this game and it's still amazing to me! :D
hmmmm sooo tempting to play this!!!!
Love that classic Keen music
Good production and nice review bro, please keep making these vids. I actually remember me as kid playing this one on my 486 66 mhz with 4 MB RAM dealing with MS DOS commands and torturing myself configuring the sound card with the IRQs and DMA shit. Great memories!

***** Glad you enjoyed it! Ah, and yes, the sound config utilities... The usual combo was port 220 IRQ 5 and DMA 1 for me :D
I never had real speakers on our old family PC, so I actually grew up with the sounds at 05:18 Never even knew the games were supposed to have music until years later.
2 years late :) great video! btw i lost to much time in paddle war

***** Thanks! LGR is a pretty cool guy :)
When I was a kid o would play the paddle war minigame a lot haha. Easily amused
Very nice intro. The graphics are also really nice even though I prefer 8-Bit graphics over 16-Bit ones. I think ID software made a great job on the aesthetics of the graphics.

derLPMaxe - Generischer Name, Generischer Kanal. Yup. They stand the test of time :)
Is This Downloadable Anywhere?
When I was a kid this was by far my favorite platformer. I prefer it to any other game of that era (Price of Persia, Mario etc etc)

Same. ;-) “Price”? 🤣
I wanted to find an indy game review channel like yours....well i found you and you earned a sub. I like what I see. Wow, I never played that game but went instead with Duke Nukem and others from Apogee as this one looked childish but man did I miss a lot. Some of those old games features more content than todays 8 bit retro remakes lol. Good video

Late Game Reviewer Yup! They do offer a lot of content :) I actually beat both Keen 4 and 5 in under 3 hours, according to my recording time. Which is weird, because it felt like I've played it for a much, much longer time :P Also, glad you like my stuff, thanks for subbing! :)

I just want to say not all modern pixel art looks bad. Look at games like Shovel Knight, Freedom Planet, 1001 Spikes, Owl Boy etc.

Those are actually good examples of pixel art done right. They aim to emulate the feeling of old school games. They restrict themselves and commit to a very specific retro style. A lot of modern pixel art is just low-resolution sprites without any artistic direction that don't resemble anything retro. I don't think ALL of the pixel art today looks bad. It's just that the majority of it doesn't just seem to get what makes those games' (you just mentioned) pixel art so unique and awesome.
People are always trying to destroy the galaxy. I'm sick of it
