Trekking Nepal: Gosainkunda Lake

    A sapphire jewel in the mountains of Langtang National Park, Gosainkunda is a stunning high altitude lake and pilgrimage site for Hindus. It's a fantastic 5 day add-on trek to the Langtang Valley, or a great standalone trek if you're looking for something close to Kathmandu with spectacular views and cultural interest. We were lucky to experience the landscape blanketed in snow, making the whole trek even more beautiful! Hope you enjoy the film and as always our route map and written guides are over on the blog to help you plan your own trek - www.goingthewholehogg.com/gosainkunda-trek-guide and www.goingthewholehogg.com/gosainkunda-helambu-trekking-route-guide Cheers! Nice one (again!!). We did this in 2018. Starting the Tamang Heritage Trail, then on to the Langtang Trek and finishing up with the Gosaikunde Trek. Epic. Great to see it in the snowy landscape. Had the same room in Kutumsang!!! We were fortunate to actually see a Red Panda right after the Laurenbina Pass going on to Thadepati. Love Nepal. Keep the vid's coming! 🙏

    Wow, you saw a red panda!!! That is very lucky, must have been an amazing experience. Sounds like a great itinerary too. We'd looked at doing something similar but we'd already settled the flight dates and couldn't fit it all in along with the Everest Three Passes. Hopefully we'll get to experience the Tamang Heritage Trail another time! The snow made it a bit harder going, but it was sooo beautiful. Ha, that room and its shower in Kutumsang was very welcome after a few more basic guesthouses! Will you be heading back to Nepal to trek again do you think?

    We're a bit hestitant about going back now that you'll have to go with a guide. We've been to Nepal 6 times since 1996 and there's still a number of treks I would love to do. We're completely taken by the country & it's people.

    Thanks guys for your hard work! So evocative! I was there in '92. Took no photos, so it was a REAL treat to be able to relive the experience through your excellent video. It really brought it all back. Great photography and editing! So nice to see a video that isn't pretentious or self-promoting... just honest... and some good 'fly-on-the-wall' takes of the locals at the lodges. Would have been quite nice to have finished with a minute of 'life back in Kathmandu', just as a contrast, but I appreciate the video was just about this trek... and bet you were both pretty knackered and happy to give the filming a rest!

    Oh wow, 92! Could you see much of a difference now in comparison to the trek experience then? The guesthouse we stayed at in Laurebina was built in 94, the one at the lake itself about 16 years ago or so I think. Was there accommodation along the trail then, or camping? Definitely no safety railing leading to the lake back then I imagine! We filmed this back-to-back with our Langtang trek over 15 days and only had a 3 day turnaround in Kathmandu before starting our Everest Three Passes trek, so yes you've hit the nail on the head when saying we definitely needed to give the filming a rest by that point! Glad to have brought back memories of your own trek and thank you for your kind words and appreciation of our work. It puts smiles on our faces! Cheers, Kim

    @@GoingTheWholeHogg Hard to recall '92,. Kim. From my log, the road-head was Dhunche, from there, climb to Syabru, then Sing Gompa, then Gosainkund lake. All had a lodge (as did Laurebina). I think the lake was undeveloped. I never went over the Laurebina pass, instead found my own route heading W/SW of Gosainkund and out to Kathmandu, bivvying and staying with villagers. You did well to have just a 3- day turnaround before another major trek! That's work, not play! Btw, I think someone else mentioned the need for more chit-chat between you. I agree... these are often the most memorable bits, especially if they have emotional content, as when Del asked you how the Momo's were! So, yes, we need plenty of footage of the Stars interacting/expressing thoughts/feelings! (You're both super-photogenic.) Close-up footage of locals is really good too... you did get that really great sequence of them cooking, at the start. Anyway... great work... as usual!

  • @GoingTheWholeHogg

    @GoingTheWholeHogg

    10 ай бұрын

    @@sim-sam Ha, us neither! No, we kind of do. KZread likes it when creators publish videos regularly to schedule, with an audience watching regularly too. This makes YT more money through advertising, so they are more likely to push your videos on people's home page, resulting in more views, subscribers, etc. So, for people like us who do not upload videos weekly, instead focusing on high quality films that take a long time to create, it is less likely that YT will show our content to new people on their home page, so it is harder for us to grow our audience. It is why we are so appreciative of the people who do watch our films and leave comments and likes (like you!), because this engagement shows YT that audiences like our films, and there is more chance that YT will show it to more people on their home feed. This helps new people find us and our channel to grow. It is frustrating, but we keep trying our hardest to create the best films we can and grow this channel (even if it's very slow!).

    Many thanks for another great incite to your trek in the Himalayas. I've enjoyed some of your other content too. Just a general criticism, and I'm trying to be constructive here...personally I would prefer a little dialogue, otherwise it has a tendency to become a little soulless.

    @GoingTheWholeHogg Between whoever is on screen ie., yourselves talking about the trail, its difficulties, the temperature, or your guides with you (if they are understandable) or in the tea houses. I feel they would add character to the content.

    I wouldn't expect there to be snow here in November (although we also didn't expect snow in early April but it happened!), so yes I think it's more likely that it will be more brown.

    We have no personal experience from December, but it seems that winter sets in from mid-December and then snowfall is more likely. Expect it to be sunny during the day and cold at night. We were there in April. There had not been much snow over winter then suddenly there was a lot as we trekked to the lake.
