Treatment for Cauda Equina Syndrome

Cauda Equina occurs when the nerve roots in the lumbar spine are compressed, cutting off sensation and movement. The nerve roots that control the function of the bladder and bowel are especial vulnerable to damage. Cauda equina syndrome is one of the only surgical emergencies in the spine and should be taken very seriously. Watch this video to learn more about the surgical treatment of cauda equina syndrome.

Hi, Dr. Brian I want to thank you so much for explaining on your other KZread videos about when you need surgery! That really helps me understand things! Also, the other KZread video you did on cervical laminectomy and fusion. Wow, I never knew how much you need to know how to ask questions to help yourself make decisions about surgery and I never knew that surgeons don't go by your pain they go on what is going on in your physical, MRI, CT Scan, or X-ray!!! Thank you so much! Thank you I was wondering if you could answer a question what if you have done everything possible and then some injections, trigger point injections, abalations, pain pumps, SMS, and nothing worked to help your neck or lumber?

If someone has their Thecal Sac herniated into the Laminectomy Defect, is that a severe or potentially dangerous situation?

@@nanaykikay8017There is no way that a doctor is going to give medical advice to a patient that they haven’t seen, and certainly not from a profile picture on the internet. It doesn’t matter how many times you ask, they will NOT do it. It’s unethical and dangerous.

From MRI it seems almost 50% cord compression, however most doctors suggest surgery only if there is loss in muscle strength. Anyway consult a best doctor nearby. Hope you will do good with time.
