Treatin' Fuel and Rollin' Coal - 1984 VW Rabbit Turbo Diesel (4K)

Oliver takes it upon himself to put diesel fuel additive in the Rabbit, waits for it to choke to life, and takes it for a spin. Warning: crispy engine sounds and turbo noises.

    I have a alh tdi engine in a Nissan 240sx and I swapped mechanical pump so no electronics. My question is what runs the rpm on your car? I am currently struggling to find a accurate way to measure rpms

  • @OliverFetter

    @OliverFetter

    Жыл бұрын

    I dont have a tachometer - I looked up the ratios in my gearbox & worked it backwards from MPH. So at a given speed, with X wheel size, in X gear, you will have X rpm. (theres calculators online for this too!!)

    Yo! The wonderful land of eBay I believe. To do it you get an oil filter adapter plate, some (preferably) -10an lines, and an oil cooler with -10an ports, then proceed with grunting and swearing :D

    Are VW Rabbit Trucks reliable daily commutes?

  • @OliverFetter

    @OliverFetter

    2 жыл бұрын

    That depends ... They are 40 year old vehicles, so it'll be reliable if its been well cared for. Once in good shape they're simple vehicles that are easy to maintain as a daily 💁💯

    One thing about Diesel the VW engines run high oil pressure on the Diesels up to 110 or more pounds have to use a high pressure oil filter

    Oliver, be glad you have 5 gears. My '79 B1 Dasher diesel 1.5 only has four manual gears. Somebody had installed an aftermarket turbo on it, but I have yet to feel or hear it work. Does your Rabbit have a cold start knob? My dasher does.

  • @OliverFetter

    @OliverFetter

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yo! Interesting. Do you know what size turbo is on it? It took me a lot of trial and error on pretty much everything. I removed the cold start knob from the dash when I redesigned it, the lever on the pump stays out all the time..I don't think it would start if it wasn't 😂

    Thank you! I did make it myself. It is the O.G. Rabbit dashboard with a lot of modifications! You can get an aftermarket fiberglass dash from certain places on the interwebs but I found working with what I had was good for now.
