I have that same Western in my project blade box. In the exact same shape. No leather. Found it on the South Platte river in the 70's not more than 50 miles from Boulder, Co.. Nice haul brother.

I like those Rapala fillet knives, easy to sharpen and they hold an edge for a good while.

The small blade on your Queen #48 whittler is worn, but not broken. It is the shape known as a coping blade. I have one similar to it, but with yellow handles that I bought new at a knife shop years ago. It came with a large clip point blade, a pen blade, and a coping blade. The coping blade is similar to a Sheepsfoot blade, but smaller, and generally intended for woodworking or woodcarving. Those old Queens were great knives. Thanks for sharing.

Hello, I believe that one fixed blade knifew/the leather handle is a Marbles from the upper peninsula of Michigan, from a town called Gladstone. Great video!!!! Keep ‘em coming

Former Western employee here. On your Western, the knob pins don’t come out easily, many won’t budge and you can trash the knob trying. They are permed to prevent them from working out and dissimilar metal corrosion is a factor as well. Best way is to make scales that fit tightly and put a wood filler between the guard and knob ends to keep the guard tight and if you use pins through the center it will help keep the scales centered. I’ve been working on Westerns for many years.

That is the original blade on the Queen. I think she should have let you have all for 20$ People should not charge much more than a dollar for broken knives. The Boy Scout is a rare find. I have been collecting old knives for over 50 years now. You never know what you might find out there. My favorites are Queen , Keen Kutter and old Western fixed blades 👍🇺🇸👍

nice ..i went one here in new castle ind..labor day its called farmers pike on highway 38 one garage sale 3 long folding tables of knifes.. got a buck knifes ..son got a case pocket knife a big one with a leather case... both was from the 70"s.. .

That blade you were asking about is a sheep’s foot. That Western is a real find. Maybe 50s or 60s. I have restored two from that period. 🔪🎸

A nice little haul there! A Sheffield made Scout knife along the lines of what you found there was my first fixed blade, wished I still had it, a great knife, but kids loose stuff. Have a Richards equivalent of your Camp King to fix up, those shell scales are not too difficult to deal with for your early fixer uppers.

For the fixed blade with pitting, put just the blade or metal in vinegar, and then use bar keepers freind on it and itll make it so you should be bale to see the brand on it.

I have always known these as Rapala fillet knives with the older ones having a little thicker blade than the newer ones but still very good quality knives.

I got a camillus full blade .vietnam..... I'm getting a ww2 next month.....I've been watching old flea mkt or garage sales pawn shop videos

I’ve been wanting to do this one for a while now. Bone jut gets my shop in a mess and it stinks something terrible!! I may go back with stacked leather.

It took a while but then you hit the jackpot ❤,that stall had many broken knife tips. Good luck with your restoration projects 👍. In the end you had a good day ❤❤❤❤

I miss going to fleemarkets back in the day, old army navy stores were you can find good and use knives and stuff..

Oh man, there was a camco borlow knife in the bottom of the bin with the black celluloid handle scales. I wouldve snatched that one up to. Stay safe. Cheers.😊. Also that queen winter bottom bone you got all that was wrong was the broken tip blade. That was a good find. All in all I think you did good.😊

The 2nd looks like a pal emington. RH something. Like the rh36 used by troops at start of ww2. That is a knife I need. I have couple of the smaller knives like it. I wouldn't clean any knife that's collectable btw but cool video

When putting a tip on a old case knife does that depreciate the value? I have a 2 blade case and according to the style of the word case its from the 50s, I bought it at a pawn shop for $6 and my friend put new tips on it.

I understand about the pocket knives and fixed blades but I can’t help wonder about the attraction to fillet knives. What’s the attraction there Doc?

The designer was Janne Martiini (a blacksmith from Finland who became a knife maker). The knife itself is a 6" (or 7") Rapala "Fish N Filet" knife. You can still get them for less that $30 and they have one of the sharpest factory edges I've ever seen.

That Queen is the original blade. Coping blade it’s called.

It frustrates me at trade shows when people like that woman you bought all the knives from Jack's up a reasonable offer. It's basically broken junk (unless your buying it to restore) and is practically worthless to 99.9% of people that walk by it. If you would have offered 30 she would said 35... it just gets under my skin, when people do that they have to have something I REALLLLLYYYY WANT in order for me to not just walk away. A fair offer is a fair offer, not reason to auto jack up the offer the person made when the offer they made is fair. At the fleamarkets around here they will do exactly the same and as soon as they do if I'm out then they want to go yeah ok I'll take the offer you made after you start to walk away because they know ain't no one else likely gonna buy it.. that doesn't work for me neither once it once they turn down my offer and jack the price on stuff that I know is worthless to the masses as well as the one selling it and I turn to leave them magically my offer is good enough go except then my offer will go down the exact amount they tried to jack it up or I won't do business. I get the objective to barter but the fact of the matter is when the buyer is making an honest to goodness offer and the seller wants to jack up the price (when realistically she would have taken a dollar each for them broken knives had you not had a bundle of them and she knew you wanted them for some reason) just to see if they can get more.. that's just trying to beat someone out of a few more dollars. Lame tradesmenship is lame trademensship and she would have ended up with 20 bucks or she would still be packing them knives around right now trying to hope someone will buy them.

I see what you are saying but the sellers are usually trying to make it worth their while. If they wanted to give it away, they would have; clearly there is some financial motivation on their part. Even $30 was a deal on all those knives, frankly 1-2 probably would have sold for more than that on eBay. I don’t blame the sellers for trying to get the most bang for their buck. If they see someone is interested, it’s their job to sense it and get the most they can without the customer walking away. Basic law of supply and demand.
