The JGL mark seems to show up in vintage jewelry and is gold or silver. Judging by the other pieces I see on the net, I would imagine it's either 10k or 14k. AWESOME find!

Get yourself a digging knife or a small hand rake. Rocks are great. Creates a false bottom which traps jewellery and coins if a storm strip away the sand.

To answer your question. Yes us beach guys hunt beaches like that. Get yourself a one piece handle scoop with a pointy tip. That will help you in the rocks, just don't go crazy when prying them you can always move the scoop around and ease them out without tearing up the scoop....

I hunt a beach that's more small rock then sand and find alot. After I bent up a good scoop, I reshaped it with a hammer and added a small piece of flat iron at the tip. By welding in the iron, I'm able to easily push thru rock and keep the shape of the scoop. Hardest part was actually welding the iron, but that didn't take too long. Oh and yes, the scoop is heavier, but worth the trade off.

I've been digging an area like this once a week since last Easter. Looking for a $5k gold ring that was lost in knee deep water. It's a popular drinking spot so there's lots of trash targets. I've so far found one gold and one silver ring as well as a silver necklace and bracelet and at least a half dozen junkers. A couple hours is all I can take before I need to move on to sandy beaches nearby. I never would have detected this spot if I hadn't been asked to by a random stranger I met at another beach.

Full of those old beaver tail pull tabs? Always great stuff hiding in those spots.. just hard to get through the tough terrain and massive amounts of trash! Happy to be digging up signals though 👍 Hope you end up finding that ring!

I mostly hunt difficult rocky beaches because that is where the old stuff gets stuck and most other detectorists find it too difficult to bother with. I have found Morgan dollars, half dollars, nice gold rings, and other interesting old stuff. The only downside is it’s hard on your equipment.

  • @tesselis

Howdy! I was curious why you decided to go for a Garrett pinpointer rather than a minelab pro find. I own a Minelab pro find 20, and the new version of those are now waterproof. I love your beach hunts 😃. I do want to see some more metal detecting for some old coins, so maybe if you'll have an opportunity?

Honestly at the time it just seemed like everyone was using the Garrett & it was kind of tried & true at the time. I've never used the Minelab pinpointer.. they probably all get the job done in a slightly different way. 👍 I need to get on some old ground for sure! Long overdue.
