The Rival, yes. I wouldn't recommend the Arrmas to a new hobbyist and I think a lot of other owners would agree. They have a fundamental flaw with their drivetrain -- the motor mounts are weak and will bend, chewing up the spur gear and messing up the slipper clutch. There's no permanent solution unless you spend $50-100 on an aftermarket motor mount. Not good for beginners.

@@christopheranderson6931 I've had 3 and never had any of those issues at all. Granite, BRCC and Typhon. In fact I haven't heard of any of my buddies haven't that issue either. I've beat on all 3 the past few years on 3s and haven't had that particular issue yet. I'll ask around and see. Not saying it didn't happen to you and people up know. But just saying it's not a guarantee it will happen to others. And if it does its simple to work on and good experience. If you're bending motor the motor mounts on them you're most likely jumping them high. Beginners and newbies are ripping around on grass and dirt and jumping small jumps off make shift landscape. So I disagree and stand by what I originally said. I haven't heard of one bent motor mount on the arrms 3s line until now from you

Either include the GTR shocks and 3S system or drop the price $75-$100. AE and Arrma just give you more value for your money and both are well established manufacturers. Great looking truck though and soooo much better then the original Stampede (2wd or 4wd)!

agree that traxxas start to go over board with the price compared to what one get. im not a fan of like 6S cars that is undrivable past 1/4 throttle but slowly traxxas start to go that rout and its just stupid to over motorised the cars. im happy they stay on the 2-3S models and the fact that the BL2 system might be a good replacement for the brushed versions that got the motor as a weak point in that dust in the bearings and the motor is shot while brusless is more protected from dust. the point that speaks against traxxas tho is that speedo and motor combo got a steap price that i cant understnd why its twice the price of a similar hobbywing or other system.

I've been looking for a comparison between the Stampede 4x4 VXL, Hoss 4x4 and this new V2 version. I bought a 4x4 VXL several years ago and have been trying to figure out what differences there are in the chassis since it says the Hoss and V2 have a longer chassis. Is it just putting the Slash 4x4 chassis in place of the VXL chassis?

  • @RazorRC

The Stampede 4x4 VXL chassis has about a 10.5" wheelbase. The V2/Hoss chassis is about 1/2" longer. The Slash is a lot longer, more like 2" longer than the VXL.

I appreciate your review, but half to disagree. I do not own this model , but do have other Traxxas vehicles. I watched another youtuber put this same truck thru a major bashing session. Yes the shock did bend , but Im shocked that nothing else broke or shattered. I think this thing was build tough as nails. My rustler with the youngest son at the wheel drove it into a concrete curb. A part did crack. But thats the point. Just because something breaks does not mean its a bad product. Try running a full size car into a concrete wall. It will not be as simple as driving to the hobby shop and buying a $5 or 10 dollar part. lol lol. These things are great man, have fun!

As much as i agree a lot in everything, i still belive traxxas did something here. It does not deserve money right now, i expected cheaper but u ger basically an all durability oriented car. The only thing missing is a better servo but for the rest u get a very decent starter for the money, non fast as a 3s system but incredibly tough and very nice reiforced and designed. Watching the whole bl2s line , in my opinion, the fiesta is the only to deserve the mlney, only because the competitor are all in the 500 + area und , for less u still get a 2 or 3s system.

@@villalba3420 The basic Stampede layout has been around since the early-mid 90's. There's lots of parts for it. I looked at a Gorgon in person at a local hobby shop. I didn't care for the bottom "trap door" battery tray setup, but the rest of it looked nice. It does have a mid-motor setup so it's balanced better and jumps better from the videos I have seen. The Stampede 2wd is VERY rear heavy and likes to wheelie at full throttle very easily. It is also very top heavy and rolls on grass with any speed. I bought myself a 2wd Stampede back in 1995 and have since bought or pieced together 3 other ones for my kids. Parts used to be hard to come by but now every hobby shop carries Traxxas parts. Front caster blocks are real easy to break on these so buy spares!

I think they intended this to be a replacement of brushed motors and is expected for beginners. For little kids and even adults brushed RC's are still a lot of fun when you can bash without anything breaking all the time. A dad can go get this for their kid for B-Day or Christmas and the kid can go beat the heck out of it and have fun and very rarely will dad have to go buy a part for it. Any RC hobbyist should understand this isn't for experienced people. Price is more expensive because as a Traxxas customer you're paying extra to have parts just down the street from you which was a huge bonus when I first started.

Traxxas doesn't "lose" to Arrma at all. They prioritize different things in their vehicles vs Arrma, and folks have the ability to choose what they want to spend their money on. The Arrma 3S vehicles have a major weakness with their motor mounts and slipper clutches which is frustrating for newer hobbyists to deal with. You have to spend anywhere from $50-$100 on upgraded aftermarket motor mounts to fix the issue permanently. The Stampede 4x4 has a better-designed drivetrain (center diff with metal gears) and can easily be upgraded to a 3S power system with no issues. The body design is also much better with the integrated rollcage. It's just about what your priorities are.
