    I just purchased a V5 rtr 6s Kraton last week, and the words “not that powerful” are definitely not an accurate description of this truck. This thing is ridiculously quick, has trouble keeping the front wheels on the ground, even in sand! Punch that throttle at almost any speed, and she lofts those front tyres high in the air. Unless you’re driving on a big flat boring grassed area, trust me there is more than enough power and speed. I have had plenty of high performance RC cars, electric jets, pylon racers and rc helis over the past 20 yrs and my honest opinion is that most people will not be able to drive this truck anywhere near it’s full potential. This thing is an absolute beast of a truck!

    Kraton is an animal when it’s fix up right. Steering can be fixed by adding snap rings to the servo saver and air control can be fixed with thicker center diff fluid and a bigger pinion gear. As far as punch I feel it has a ton of power. Also have to turn the punch up to setting 9 in the ESC. I think it comes at setting 6 out of the box.

    I love the erevo because out of the box not much is needed to work out the bugs. It drives very well. I have only broken one front lower a arm after crashing into a post at 50 mph. I really like the Kraton too but I’ve spent the most money upgrading and time working on it out of all of my rc. I like plastic chassis in the 6-s line up because it doesn’t bend, it flexes witch is forgiving. You have to spend an adttional 500$ on the Kraton to make it strong enough to withstand the jumps it’s capable of. It needs a lot of diff running. The non adjustable servo saver sucks. You have to pop in e-clips to tighten it. All Arma needed to do was add an adtional lock or an indexing threaded pin along the threads that go through the locknut and shaft.

    I just watched this again and I will say (in my experience) Horizon has been really good to me with everything I’ve thrown at them. They respond quickly and they just send what you need. They don’t complain, they don’t make you swear on your mom and send blood types with negative Covid tests, they just send you what you need. I really like that. Traxxas is good in the way that you can always get someone and they always have parts available. Corally will just offer you a discount on parts. They actually need a real support department. They president of the company responds to all emails and even though that sounds great, he’s really not good in the customer service/retention department. It’s a huge turn-off. Also, the parts are not that readily available. Corally is a great race brand, but they are not bash-ready yet. Just my opinion though. They are SUPER powerful, you’re absolutely spot-on there.

    Great and honest review. I have the erevo 2.0 and I love the thing. It got me back into RC. I cant really comment on the other two as I've never owned them but I know that the Kratons chassis bends quite easily upon heavy impacts so based on that I dont think it would be the most durable but I think everyone will have a different opinion on these trucks. All of them are great and very capable trucks.

    Yes you are correct reaper! Brushless is better! Never said it wasn’t . Some people out there can’t afford the brushless versions, so a good brushed motor has its place in the market. Changes to be made to brushless anytime down the road. I personally have been in that position where I couldn’t afford the Brushless version, because it was $50-$100 more than the brushed version. Down the road at a better time I was able to upgrade to brushless and still spend less over all. Have a great Day!😊

  • @GreatLakesRC
    @GreatLakesRC2 жыл бұрын

    I always respect your opinions and this was a fair review. I do think you are a bit off on the Kraton since you were trying to compare the EXB and what a V5 would be at the same time. There is a huge durability upgrade with the EXB, 7075 chassis, towers and braces that are not found on the V5. The V5 has plastic braces. The point of the EXB was that is was an upgraded roller so you can power it however you would like. So you are trying your best to mix and match comparisons here. I would say that a V5 would be the worst durability of the three since every stock Arrma I have has upgraded towers and chassis. The power discussion I always find interesting as well. The old BLX power system can be geared way up and is pretty darn good. I think you are going for out of the box power comparisons, which I agree Arrma always seems to gear overly conservative. I am really curious on TC and feel like I need to get one just to experience it! I have given up on the E-revo, too expensive and not worth it for me. Love these videos as they always make for great conversation!

    thanks for sharing! The V5's break, but you haven't tried a TC, they only go about 10 feet high before they start breaking... landing on all fours. I have the Kronos V2 and it's awesome (will eat a 6s erevo on just 4s) but it's a nightmare to work on compared to all the other RCs I've owned (Cars, Trucks, Helis and Planes. Micro to huge). I really hope they come out with a V3 soon. I do like their brace system and think with a T to T brace it would be a better system than the Kraton due to the towers being supported over a large area along the chassis. The V2 diffs seem very beefy, but they NEED thicker oil. The tires aren't very good and go pizza cutter especially with the stock center diff oil. I have some problems with the ESC getting wet when washing it, and it needs bigger pillow balls (they pull out). The whole front end is a pain (broke the servo saver) and I can't find a proper exploded diagram- I believe ALL trucks like this should have an available manual that assumes you are building it from a kit, because when you tear the whole thing down (and need to know what parts to order from overseas) you practically building a kit at that point. It's hard for me to remember (or even figure out after a bad crash) where and which way the parts go, especially after sitting disassembled for 2 weeks. Overall it's a great truck with some problems that can be fixed. If I had to do it again I would have gotten the V5 Kraton for parts ability, BUT if Corally comes out with a V3 that addresses the problems I mentioned I would buy it in a heartbeat, no comparison. The ball is in their court now, will I get a V3 Kronos or will I get a Kraton EXB and swap over the electronics? Time will tell.

    @@gozzyboy1989 I'm not sure how bad it really is compared to a Kraton, but without any PROPER exploded diagram, and many small parts in, um, different positions, after a crash it was a pain to figure out where they went, just going off 1 KZread video. It might all be better now, probably more info out there and maybe they include a better manual, but yea, proceed with caution. Don't get me wrong, it performs awesome with new tires and diff oil, but It was pretty painful and was actually the first RC to get me pissed off, which is quite the feat considering I've crashed and rebuilt RC helicopters many times... It's the little things like 1 small (totally unnecessary) non captured nut, under 2 stacked layers of shock tower on chassis brace with all the steering mounted to it/ sandwiched between, needs to be taken out just to remove the front bumper- I took off the top "stack"/ shock tower and disconnected the steering to get at it, then used JB weld on the tip of a shaved down chopstick to glue it to the aluminum chassis so I don't have to worry about it again (why? just why? lol). I hope that gives you a better idea, it's up to you to decide... I hear the new ones have a better design, but I haven't seen one up close in person.

    The price increases traxxas has made are crazy on some of their cars. I bought my e revo for 550 only a year ago. 650 is Definitely overpriced. Probably to try to justify the price of the maxx.

    ERevo 2.0 all day 🤘. Fast and durable plus it has a solid chassis that doesn’t bend. Dual servos…meh….run them until they die and convert it to a single servo. IMO…Metal chassis’s are good for racing. Not bashing. Once it bends….it will never be true again which puts strain on other parts. Why do you think so many people who buy Arma eventually upgrade to an M2C chassis….

    @@ryand5665….I like some of Traxxas’s rigs but not all of them. If that makes me a “fan”…ok. I’m a fan of the RC hobby and have a V2 Outcast with a chassis that I’ve had to re-straighten numerous times. Which brings me back to my point that has nothing to do with brandism. Metal chassis’s are better suited for racing. Plastic is better for bashing.

    Agreed. So many people go on about how durable their kraton is. I say go take a ruler to your chassis and tell me how durable it really is. The E-revo has weak points but at the end of the day, it will cost less and be less of a pain in the ass. No need for a $150+ chassis upgrade. I wouldn't buy either for a basher anyways. Just get a maxx or a 3s arrma for a basher. These 1/8 truggies are for racing and high speed driving. Not for heavy bashing.

    I personally own a couple of RC's one of them being a E-Revo 2.0 VXL. I've noticed my neighbor recently bought a 6S BLX Arrma Kraton. Everytime he brings his RC out it seems to break something. I haven't broken one part on my E-Revo. That's my personal anecdotal experience with these two RC's.

    This vehicles original sole purpose was to be a race vehicle that Traxxas designed to be and dominate the race circuit back when it first came out. I think it was around like 09 or something. That is why there are so many adjustments on it. And that's why it's not built like any other Traxxas vehicle. If you look into the racing series when this truck was new, it clearly dominated everywhere it was raced. It is not a truck for beginners. Hence the dual servos and tons of adjustments to the suspension and chassis as well as the amount of work to disassemble it. The cantilever suspension is a full race suspension. This is basically a full-blown race truck. It seems like you are unaware of the intended purpose of the E Revo and completely misunderstand this vehicle. It requires continual adjusting. It's not for someone who wants an easy vehicle to work on. Much of the servicing of this truck requires it to come apart in greater detail than other vehicles every time you want to work on it. It's not as simple to work on like a maxx or an X Maxx. For it's intended purpose, it is the best vehicle in its class imo. That is why it dominated the racing circuit for as long as it did, which was the entire time Traxxas was into racing this vehicle. They've gotten away from focusing on racing however and are more committed to the bashers. Hope this helps you understand the intended purpose of the design of this vehicle. I've been a Traxxas fan since the beginning and know all about these vehicles. There's lots of biased misinformation out there on Traxxas vehicles.

    I do not understand something here, you put the Kraton as a model of reliability, then you list what you had to change in it and this is the longest list among all models ... the differential fell out of the box, the servo saver is weak (I will only add that in the Kraton it is designed in this way , that it will very easily destroy servos on impact, same with the motor, if you do not put any silicone beyond it, you will bend the motor shaft), ironically, you broke rod end, you popped pivot balls few times, you broke those shock pins or shock mount... That just sound like every other rc in this clip, except those poor design differential as none of other 2, do not have problems with. I bet that this truck is super durable when you put a 650$ M2C kit in it but well, this will took us up to Xmaxx price range with many mods in it... Then You still have to deal with popping pivots, rod ends, crashing teeth in diffs or small pins, loosing wheel nuts and super soft body. I've also forget about that wing mount and small bearing in the rear, or loosing tbones also in the rear, poor stickers... meh. I expect V6 EXB to be an ultimate basher, but now, those are like wl toys, with a need to drain your wallet.

    Those were manufacturing defects, and why it scored lower in the Build category. Once the defective parts were replaced with properly made stock parts, it is the most Durable. I don't think that is a problem with currently shipping Kratons.
