Travis Pastrana and the RMZilla 500 at Red Bull Straight Rhythm

Cruising around the pits at Straight Rhythm, it was hard to ignore #Wiseco rider Travis Pastrana's 500cc 2-stroke RM beast. We sat down to chat with Travis about his man's man race bike, hitting the triple-quad-triple, the backflip-scrub, and what he relies for his 500.

Two strokes are for those who like their fun with dose of sheer terror mixed in. 4 strokes are for having an all around pleasant time. Personally; I skateboarded and bombed steep hills for 15 years with no pads and sometimes barefoot, crashed ATVs, Dirt Bikes, and Snow machines many times (only broke my arm once somehow) and I'm good at making jumps and ramps. 2 stroke is tattooed on my heart.

If a guy says they never felt like death was imminent or afraid at all while taking a 500 2 stroke out for some fuckery then; that guy is rubbing shoulders with McGrath and Pastrana and is probably considering doing the isle of man race in the near future, that guy is a serial killer who feels nothing, or that guy is a liar. It's not the top speed but the fact that holding that throttle open just a little too long and you're going too fast and you got there too fast so the bikes either bucking you or you're about to get intimate with that tree.

I DO remember reading in Dirt Wheels and 3&4 Wheel Action about a beach race over in Europe and most riders were on LT500s except for a few Banshees, no Rs. Duncan Racing always set up a few LTs for this race every year not PdV cant remember the name of it but anyway thats a high speed race so my initial impression was maybe TP figured out how to make the LT make torque and midrange in order to keep the build all Suzook. I always rode akd raced Hondas as a kid and teen but I would really like to have a two stroke sport quad collection starting with a clean Quadzilla!

Suzuki made a liquid cooled 500 4-wheeler called the quadzilla, that is the engine he is using. Look it up, it was quite crazy.

Just google a photo of a CR500AF cylinder and take a close look at the RMZ same cylinder also the 500 quad you are referring too doesn't look anything like what Travis has got there.

Two strokes are from a time when that was the only way to get real power and we learned how to ride them effectively. Now the 4 strokes make good power that’s easy to ride. Nothing wrong with that if it suits you. But, for an E-ticket ride and something you’ll never forget, strap yourself onto a 500 two stroke. It will scare and thrill you at the same time. There is NOTHING else like it. Pure addiction.

@@coreywuertz715 i looked at a quadzilla's engine and it doesn't look anything like Pastrana's 500. If you look at a pre 87 cr 500 engine, the water pump and clutch cover is exact. I think he went for the Honda engine. Take a look yourself.
