A Day Trip to Chiemsee from Munich | Exploring Herreninsel & Herrenchiemsee Castle! 🏰

Itinerary & Key Details:
1. Train Journey: I took a 1.5-hour train ride from Munich's main train station to Prien am Chiemsee, using the convenient Deutschlandticket. This route is the same as the one to Salzburg, with only three stops before arriving near the lake.🚊
2. Getting to the Lake: From Prien am Chiemsee station, you can either walk 🚶 for 15 minutes to the lake or take a small countryside train.
3. Boat Trip to Herreninsel: 🛳️The boat to Herreninsel costs 10 euros and the first ride departs at 9 AM. There's even a small café on board where you can grab a coffee or a snack. ☕️
4. Herreninsel: Upon arriving at the island, it's about a 20-minute walk to Herrenchiemsee Castle.
5. Herrenchiemsee Castle Tour: 🏰The guided tour of the castle costs 10€ and is held every 30 minutes. It's essential to reserve your tour time in advance. Although filming inside the castle is not allowed. 🙅‍♀️
6. Exploring the Gardens⛲️: The castle gardens are breathtaking, with intricate fountains and statues. Many locals were having picnics, taking advantage of the great weather.
6. Local Beer and Snacks: I enjoyed a local beer at a Biergarten for 5 euros and visited the nearby old church. I stayed on the island until 4 PM and then took the boat back, grabbing some snacks on board for 6 euros. 🍻
Total Cost: 31€. This includes the boat trip, castle tour, beer, and snacks.
