Have finished the video after about 4 shifts… I too had an incident in Aslockton. Mine was a furious old lady who didn’t want me to park my car in the station car park. It must attract unfriendly people that village…

Botty station! I know it well. Used to have a dreadful Sunday service. Lovely chip shop in the village.

Supposedly, my parents got engaged at Grantham station. I think one of them turned 21 as it turned midnight as the train reached Grantham, probably 3rd April 1942. Philip Heselton

Great video Sarah. Presumably Poacher line because of Lincolnshire Poacher, the song.. The tune of which announced one of the most notorious Numbers Stations.

I wasn't aware of the Lincolnshire Poacher song but have looked it up as well as Numbers Stations and heard the recording of that station! I suspect if I let myself I may fall down the rabbit hole of researching Numbers Stations!

@@sarahwiththetrains Numbers Stations are an endless source of fascination. The Lincolnshire Poacher was a British one which seemed to be based in Cyprus. There were quite a few East German ones, and Soviet ones. A famous Soviet one was "The Russian Woodpecker". It wasn't in Russia but in Ukraine, and wasn't really a true numbers station. It was an over the horizon radar system that was near Chernobyl. A huge antenna array that when operating causes a series of wooden sounding clicks on the short wave band at various frequencies. Hence the Woodpecker epithet. I well remember as a teen in the 80s listening on the short wave radio that I'd built and hearing, these strange, disembodied voices reciting numbers. All presaged by odd sounding spooky music. It was otherworldly.

Brilliant video Sarah, that station master was a very naughty one indeed. Lovely to see that Class 60 at Ashlockton. I did visit Elton and Orston and Bottesford back in 2022 but I was with other people and one had a car to drive us to Elton and Orston back then. :)

Ashlockton, I bet it's those kids from the local school going home to the next stop. They can be rowdy but once or twice I've told a little smart one to, well, why he should remain silent towards me and his mates laughed at him. They don't even stick together, lol.

Great video. Well done for half ticking off Elton & Orston. You need to do arrive and depart by different trains for it to be a full tick! There's a footpath on the map alongside the River Smite that would cut out quite a bit of the country lane walk. Is the pub at Orston any good?
