1975 since i crossed over to the Isle of Sheppey to Sheerness, for a ferry to Vlissingen in the Netherlands. Trouble free crossing the bridge and on my return.

The Kingsferry bridge causing hold ups when raised is an understatement!! You noticed that there is only one road to & from the bridge which splits at a roundabout. If ever the bridge was raised nothing on the island moved for about 30 minutes, if not longer!! And it might just be for 1 yacht going up the Swale (the waterway between Kent & the island). I know it have meant going through Dartford, but you could have changed at Chatham & got a Charing Cross train, changed at Waterloo East to walk through to Waterloo mainline

I grew up on the Isle of Sheppey. I took the train over the Kingsferry Bridge to school every day. I have also sailed under the bridge. What was the wind like on the new high bridge? I take it you didn't have enough time in Sheerness to watch a fight in a pub.

I only had 1 minute in Sheerness! Didn't notice much crosswind on the day, but it's quite exposed up there so I can imagine there's sometimes quite a bit.

I wanted the tube footage in the video, and with the train timings I wouldn't have got back any faster anyway :)
