@Royston Vasey I don't know, I wasn't there. But, certainly I did the same thing, hook my caravan and go seek the country on a work holiday. That is, do two months part time jobs here and there or 3 months elsewhere. Often the bosses allowed me to keep the caravan in the factories car park. The benefit? Security and opening up the places, start the machines, etc. They often asked me to come back in the future, which I did. I did this mostly in Adelaide, worked for Davey Dunlite, a generator making company. Did go to Perth once for 8 months, 4 times in Sydney, once in Brisbane. I did meet other caravanners who also did the same thing and often went together, stopping along the way to each city. Then, once in the city, either go to a caravan park or to an empty paddock. Nobody cared.

By not paying taxes, by drawing welfare claiming unemployment, while ripping working and retired people off for maintenance and odd jobs that they either don't need, or need done properly, for cash only "so oi can give ye a discount on d'usual proice to be sure". Then you can't find them when your new tarmac drive disintegrates, your repaired roof leaks etc, because they've vanished. I'm all for the opportunity to choose a lifestyle, just not at the combined expense of the country you live in and the decent people you fleece. The message here is, if someone knocks your door saying they're in the area and can do you a brilliant deal on this or that, no questions asked, no paperwork, it's only a brilliant deal for them.

But the cars and vans are taxed , insured , and they have driving licences. Although some don’t (just the same as a lot of settled people or gorja whatever you want to call them. But lets face it, they have fuck all else. We'd all be able to afford Range rovers if we didn't have anything else to spend money on. The rest of us go on holidays, do DIY, fix up our Gardens , pay for Childcare etc.. These guys have a caravan and a car and live on shit wasteland most of the time, and live as a trampy commune. People think they're free but they're not. They have their own rules to live by and live shoulder to shoulder with each other constantly with no privacy. I'd rather have my life as a taxpayer etc with my own land, my own house, privacy having the freedom to go where I want and not adhere to the rules of a commune than one of a traveller with a Range rover.
