    Hi Doug, I have been watching your videos for quite some time now. I took the same route in 2008 when I was returning to KL from Port Dickson. I am being nostalgic but good to see you providing all the details. Thanks! Now I am teaching at a US university. Keep up the good work. That was my first visit out of Pakistan when I was a university student. I like Malaysia so much that I have been there three times. Also, I just donated $20 by PayPal to support your channel.

    They used to have buses from PD to KL up to the 1990s. Maybe people have more money now, they buy cars and motobikes.

    Mr. Doug, I have subscribed how many yrs ago I can't really remember, I do enjoy all your coñtents. Your voice,when you tell your story is very relaxing and i was just like comfortably floating along. Also Port Dickson does ring a familiar bell for me. I went to school there from Std 1 to Form 2 in GESPD. MY father retired from government service and I continued my schooling from Form 3 to Form 5 in Kuala Lumpur..Fond memories in PD stays fresh forever. I am 78 now.

    Thank you so much for your kind words. I enjoyed my time in Port Dickson. I guess it's like most places. The longer you stay, the more you learn and discover. I think any own that is on water be it a strait, ocean, lake, river is a special place.

    That is some walk to your KL hotel. Take the LRT to masjid jamek from KL sentral. But this makes for a more interesting video. That’s a dodgy looking KL hotel Doug!

  • @PlanetDoug

    @PlanetDoug

    2 ай бұрын

    Yes, I could have taken the LRT all the way to Masjid Jamek. I've done that many times in the past. But for this trip, I thought it would be more interesting to take the KTM train to the original Kuala Lumpur train station. It's visually more interesting and part of the history of the city. And it gave me the chance to walk along the river. I don't mind walking quite long distances normally. So a short walk like that is nothing on Planet Doug. 😎 I'm not sure why you would think the hotel is dodgy. It's quite nice, particularly by my usual standards from the past. This place is far above the typical backpacker hotels that I know about in KL. Maybe it just came across weird in the video. 😃

    CC: My horibble experience while riding buses (mostly during my college years) from university to my hometown which takes 7 to 8 hours at most usually but during Raya holiday Ive been in the bus for 14hours straight because of theres alots of traffic and to make it much worse, I sat beside a particularly large(obese) person that she took almost half of my seat, can you imagine how enduring that for almost 14hours bus ride. It’s the worst. Another experience would when the bus I rode was having a flat tyre in the middle of the night, up on the Titiwangsa mountain range where the route is steep all the way and the driver just inpect the tyres and continue driving the bus without changing the tyres so he can reach nearest small town which is almost one hours away. The bus move so slow and is shaking and making sound like a horse running all the way to the end, thats the slowest bus ride ever😅 Third exeperience would be, seating in most front seat of the bus just to be witness how horibble the bus driver drove the bus, with dangerous speed and taking over another vehicle with very close proximity almost had head on collusion with a treler, my legs were shaking as if Im riding a roller coster. Thank god I was so lucky to be alive and my destination. There’s a lot more but these are some of the worst experience I think😅

    before the introduction of komuter train in late 90s...there were a lot bus services from KL to Seremban...one of the famous one i remembered was KL-Seremban express...it runs on every hour..those days many people choose to live in Seremban for cheaper housing and cost of living and commute to K L to work

  • @PlanetDoug

    Interesting history. Thanks. I would have liked to see the Seremban bus terminal. That's where my Port Dickson T30A bus was going. It would have been interesting to see how many buses were operating and how the place was organized. But since I could be dropped off right at the train station, I didn't make it. People told me that there were even Seremban buses going to KLIA. But I don't know how they operate.

    That's true. I just did that walk the other day from Bank Negara Station to this hotel. It's shorter than from Kuala Lumpur Station. I guess I just chose KL Station just out of habit. 🙂 I'm just more familiar with it from before,.

    For some long journey express buses where a two driver rule is almost certainly required, sometimes there will be a specifically designed and curtained off area at the back of the bus. This space allow the driver to rest and sleep in the back while he let his partner takes over and continue the journey. Usually this kind of buses are the more fancy one, so you will more likely to see colourful cushion onboard, well cleaned floor and less squeaking on the bus.

    That is the same hotel i stayed in a year ago in KL for 2 weeks. My room was 205 (the one nearest the water dispenser) but the room setup is exactly the same, with no windows. Too bad you didn't show the staff at the counter, i bet it's Anu. Would love to see his face again. I bought a brompton imitation folding bike in KL and used it to go around in the city. It was fun. I even brought it into the MRT to roam around further outside the city.

    I don't know if it would be the same staff. Lately, they seem to change frequently. I've been staying here quite a bit over the last year, and every time I come back, there are different people sitting at the front desk. There was a new man there this time as well to check me in. I hadn't met him before, but he was very friendly and professional. From Sri Lanka, I believe, as were the other staff I got to know here. I ended up moving to a different room, Room 105, so I'm now directly below 205. It has the exact same layout as the others. I moved because the A/C wasn't working in the first room. 205's A/C is great. And 205 came with a plastic chair. Bonus! 😀 I envy you the Brompton. That might be the ideal way to get around KL. I tried cycling on my full-sized bike, but the highway systems separating neighborhoods were too difficult to overcome. I ended up walking and using the LRT/MRT all the time. But a Brompton might have been a nice addition. Just take it into the transit system when possible.

    @@PlanetDoug it wasn't a brompton, it's a knockoff from china costing way cheaper but still acceptable quality. there are a number of brands producing brompton-like folding bikes. one brand i know from singapore. i think i read somewhere that the brompton design patent expired few years ago so now any company can produce the same design. i knew one sri lankan who worked at the front desk, friendly guy named Ronnel, maybe it's him.

    I saw Neil Young on February 27th 1971, at the Royal Festival Hall London there’s a You Tube recording of the solo concert, I also saw Joni Mitchell at the Isle of Wight festival in 1970, both very memorable! Unfortunately I never got to see Leonard Cohen, thinking about him, he had a very deep voice similar to your own when singing or speaking, though we’ve never heard you sing Doug (to compare)

    It's probably best that there is no record of me singing. 🙂 Though I do actually have audio like that. When you cycle or scooter long distances, it's natural to start singing a little bit. I have quite a bit of audio of me singing at those times. But, mercifully for anyone watching one of my videos, I edited those portions out.

    im gonna for next time im going for a trip to port dickson. if you have touchngo card, you can just use that to ride the ktm train. it works like you're riding lrt in kl. like how it works with buses.

  • @PlanetDoug

    @PlanetDoug

    3 ай бұрын

    I didn't realize that. So to take the KTM from Seremban to KL, I didn't need to buy a ticket at all? I could have just gone through the turnstile by scanning my Touch'n'Go card? To be honest, I think I knew that. I have a vague memory of doing that before. However, my brain got mixed up. I was thinking about this KTM train as a regular train and NOT like a commuter/transit train. So I kept thinking about departure times and schedules and buying tickets. In reality, I guess, it's more like riding the LRT/MRT. You just scan your card and then wait on the platform for the next train to arrive. Next time, I guess.
