My daughter lived in DC. Each time I flew up to see her I grabbed the free DC tourist magazine from the rack. At her apt, I took about 30 minutes and folded the pages in half and then cutting them out by tearing with a ruler. Then I gessoed each page and used the pages to write about and include ephemera from the visit. At the time, I had never heard of travelers notebooks. And yet I developed my own version of one out of a desire to document and create. Watching your video reminded me of those sweet memories. I need to pull all those TN out and flip through them again. I love your videos and just subscribed!

I just finished watching your video. I was so inspired that I had to go make the journal. I couldn't find a magazine,so I used a calendar, like the ones get in the mail at Christmas time. I needed to start with less pages. I followed your instructions and I have to tell it turned out gorgeous. Every page have a beautiful picture on it. Thank you for sharing your talent.

How did I miss this gem???? Life got in the way and I was delayed in checking in. You never cease to amaze me, Miss Joanne! You are always taking things to that next level and I LOVE IT! What a clever idea! I agree with you, I struggle with those large pages and what to do with them to fill them up. I also have images that I am saving just because I like them and could never get them to work in my journal. This is just the coolest idea and I can't thank you enough for sharing! I bought a ton of blank TNs at Michaels about a year ago and had no idea what I'd do with them.....until now! :) Thank you!!!

Hi Debra! Oh YAY...super happy you can use this idea and get those images glued down to paper! I was working in my TN this morning and just found it SO easy to put my pages together. I'm still keeping the full size magazine for journaling weekly and I will definitely do the occasional big art journal page....but this little TN is going to fit nicely alongside my morning routine! SO glad you were able to watch the video...thanks as always for your awesome support. Joanne

I absolutely love your creative mind!! OMG! I'm have such a big stash of magazines that several family and friends have given me over the last ten years and I was going to get the recipes from them that I liked and info on different subjects. But it kind of never happened. I started clearing out all my excess items and low and behold was going to recycle all the magazines. Then you come along and inspire my love for art. Now I'm nothing but excited! Thankyou so much for all your videos. Blessings

Have fun making them and if you have any questions, please just ask. Good luck folding and gluing! Joanne

Hi Diane.....hooray for making a journal!!! That's great news. What are you using it for? Art journal, recording everyday things, etc.? The biggest thing I can tell you is to just let go....don't worry about what your pages look like, it they are meaningful to you - they are fabulous! You'll also find your style will shift as you start to become more and more comfortable working in your journal. Maybe you should think about making a TN...the smaller pages may work better for you! LOL.....I know what you mean - when I made my first one, I used a rather dull blade on my X-acto knife...a new blade made all the difference....THAT and a little more patience when cutting through the paper. Take a piece of sand paper to the bottom of it and lightly sand it....that should help even things up.

Crystal Vanner Hi Crystal! I've been trying to get my hands on the x-treme glue, but haven't been able to find it...I thought it might be good. Thanks for the tip. I like Uhu too, but I can never find multiples in a pak like I can the Elmers. TFW be commenting. Hope you give this TN a try. Joanne

LOVE YOUR IDEAS. Is there a specific website you use for your images. I am into whimsical images and am having difficulty finding them.

Donna Nusbaum Hi Donna, I gather my images from everywhere. Children’s books, coloring books, magazines, google images, digital downloads and Pinterest. Once you start looking, you will see them everywhere. Here’s a link to my quirky images on Pinterest. They are not organized, but there’s over 3000 of them for you to look at. Hope that helps. www.pinterest.com/craftyhodges/quirky-images/ Xoxo Joanne

I'm wondering how the spine of the magazine accommodates what is now twice the pages it originally had, right? Did you possibly remove some pages?

royal r leenz Hi Royal! Good question....the spine can suffer if it’s not reinforced with Tyvek, duct or packing tape, or if it’s a stapled magazine instead of glued and if you use thick embellishments. I did not take any pages out of my TN and it’s held together but you could certainly do that. If you have any other questions, please let me know. TFW. Joanne

Hi Marisa! This is super fun and quick to make. The hardest part is not looking at the pages when you're folding them - "oh" that would be a good image, "oh I like that word", etc. etc. LOL.....experience speaking here! Hope you make one. TFW. Joanne
