I have Swedish friends and they have told me I should go to Gothenburg because it's more cultural and less commercial. They also said a lot of uncomplementary things about the people who live in Stockholm.

The soul of Gothenburg isn't found in the architecture of the Opera house. That building could've been erected anywhere. The Avenue is ok, but the unique spirit of Gothenburg dwells in areas like (what remains of the old) Haga, Masthugget, Majorna, older parts of Hisingen and Gamlestaden. Vasastaden and the quarters around Redbergsplatsen also are "genuine". Gothenburg isn't a typical "tourist" destination, but if you do some reading beforehand and get to the the locals you'll love it.

Gothenbur isn't cold, we had 97 degrees this summer. i thought i was gonna die > - but who doesn't love gothenburg?

Actually, Gothenburg is one year behind Stockholm, thats why we sell our wall calenders to very fair prices once we used them up. We all laugh about it up here :)

Around June, Scandinavia often is warmer than most other parts of Europe. This is basically due to the phenomena known as the Gulf Stream (or sooner its extension, the North Atlantic Drift), a warm Atlantic Ocean current that strongly affects our climate.

Gothenburg is nice to visit, but it is a quite ugly place. But that too has its charm. To see true swedish beauty, in terms of architecture, surrondings and even people, Stockholm is recomended.

Göteborg har sina bra sidor, men hur man än vänder på det är Stockholm sveriges största, och enda, stad. Så är det bara.
