NF is in fact rapping about himself. He is critiquing himself. His "alter ego" as you put it, in Intro 3 is actually his emotion fear. He basically splits himself into his emotions in his music to help you better understand what he is going through. This however, Is just him talking about himself! Good guess!

I believe this song can be interpreted many ways, depending on the person. But the person NF personally is speaking to is himself, or his "inner demons". The way I interpret the song although, is it always leads back to past "friends" I've had, and sometimes family. It reminds me of all the times I've been stabbed in the back by someone I've trusted... Or the times I've been belittled and patronized. Some people are just so quick to judge, and others, have zero loyalty and would leave you for someone else in a heartbeat. While others (such as yourself,) it reminds you of a relationship you've been in before, that didn't go as planned. We all have different minds and different stories, so I believe there are many more interpretations people have of this song, and it's meaning, so I don't think it would be doing anyone any justice by saying it just means this, or it just means that. (Hence why I included multiple examples of the way people can think, and listen to the words.) thank you to anyone who reads my comment, though there probably won't be many, and tell me how you interpret the song in the replies if you'd like, I'll be happy to read all of them.

GoRd0oO I mean yeah but his stage name used to be Johnathan Thulin when he was signed to the same label as NF as a chirstian artist before he decided, naw this isn’t working. He went and cheated on his wife with a guy, denounced his faith, and started singing trash music that would fit in “modern music culture” which in my opinion is trash. I like the guy’s voice. He’s an amazing singer. I just can’t stand listening to him anymore because of that horrific story. It’s sad to see someone spiral down from a unique and incredible place so they can fit in with the world.

I love this somg.in the aspect of mental health. I've seen so many ppl give into depression and lost those close to me because they're so "lost in the moment". In those moments the idea of positivity or a future seem so hopeless or dead but there's hope. When I fall into psychosis I usually have this song always queued to remind myself that although I'm struggling its just the moment. Things can change. There's hope.

I do believe he's speaking to himself within the raps. He's tired that he doesn't take things head on, and would rather lose himself in rapping about his issues rather than actually dealing with them. #PASS!!
