I went to Miami Beach last summer and they could use this technology. I was very surprised at how much litter was on the beach.

Facilitate problems, get a robot babysitter, allow trashy people to live trashy lives, the solution is more garbage treating garbage. I like the concept, but have a punish bot, that identifies the polluter, and behind the scenes above the law, its wipes that persons mind and makes them a perfect person, that Captain Planet as played by Don Cheadle can be proud of.

I think they covered this at the end - target the people who cause the problem. I’m not so keen on mind wipes. They need to remember they did wrong!

All new inventions cost at lot at the beginning. If they catch on, the price comes down. Look at what happened to automobiles. When Ford created the assembly line, the price dropped from $780 to $290.

It's nice to have all the garbage hidden away in dumps but plastics are still being produced at literally millions of tons every month. This is great! But we have so far to go to clean up the mess we made and are still very much making. Corporations should be paying for this, it is their fault for producing single use plastics and other garbage. If they did not profit from pollution they would not pollute.

I am sure this is a good machine, but the basic idea has been around for decades. I remember back in the 1970s-1980s they would clean the beach almost daily during the Summer but would have a tractor pulling a rake that captured the trash, seaweed and rocks leaving the sand perfectly clean. Then for some reason in the 1990s they determined they would not clean up the beach due to disruption of life below the sand. Personally, I think they didn't want to spend the money and saying it was bad for the ecology got it passed. Robot part isn't really needed, just a tractor operator. I assume this machine still requires an operator.

The more trash they take out of the sand and water, 7x more will be dumped each day. Unless the behaviors that cause pollution are changed you are just doing busy work. Stay busy.

Yes prevention needs to be addressed everyone in the comments! BUT there will always be littering in a free society in our lifetime, so clean-up will always be necessary and these are some of many solutions or tools to improve the work of clean-up. If you are inspired to think of practical and real world ways to prevent more littering please share or do something for your community. Voucher programs to cover dump fees or free dump days are just one of many possible solutions to reduce the amount of litter.

Overall, I very strongly support these "solutions". However, there is a social component that needs to be addressed: SOME people are pigs and abuse the environment, carelessly leaving their trash in public places. I have witnessed people dumping garbage from their vehicles into street gutters, as well as placing empty cups and bottles near their parking spaces in public garages. Shameless, inconsiderate and lazy.
