I calculated it wasn't worth doing back in 06 for that kind of money. With inflation, that is peanuts.

Aniseed works for sure but its a cat attractant. Cinnamon is good as it is also a bird repellant 👍

@@alfiesoutdoors7800 Aniseed seems to attract most things. Orange was one that improved possum results in one trial. & Eucalypt is an old favourite. If on DoC, check their conditions, some lures are not permitted (by-catch reduction). Hard to beat white flour. Salt attracts stock. Suggest try working out how to set without using feet (easier on traps & more precise once worked out well), & tang into the tree, not outwards, trap bedded firmly, usually a hand span from the backing (e.g.tree). Good comment about staples (applies to tapes too), possum hunters have a reputation for being pests in their own right. Not damaging valuable trees with staples is also important.

@@jakegollan502 Once over aout $120/kg every pest part time wannabe 2-bit hunter gets out there without a permit, and traps, gear etc gets pinched, lines & blocks get ruined by being partly badly trapped before you get to that part of the block etc. It's a problem for those doing it professionally and legally, particularly on public land. As a job you need to get at least 25 a day, every day, to make minimum wage (the 10 to the kilo areas are near unicorn country, 14-20 is more like it), so someone stepping on the toes becomes tiresome. Good operators can often get permission for private farmland, & repeat consent if they do it right. Unsure if DoC does exclusive or multiple hunter blocks, when doing it years ago on multiple permit areas sorting out something equitable with others at the start of the season was what worked for most. Problem operators usually got educated.
