Here’s the question though. Are we invading Kris or are we actually the embodiment of Kris’s soul being pushed out of our rightful vessel by an invading force? At the beginning of the game it tells us how we don’t get to choose who we are, which seems to be what Kris is dreaming about before Toriel wakes them up. Kris is dissatisfied with who they are (see “It’s only you” when looking in the mirror.) so they dream about being someone else, a better person of their own design. Then reality kicks in. Think of what Kris has been through. Their parents divorced, then their brother, the only person Kris felt was truly there for them, left for college, leaving Kris alone. From their perspective, life is falling apart, so naturally their dreams would picture themselves in a different body, a different life. I think we get a little too caught up in the fourth wall breaking aspects of Undertale when we look at this game, which Toby Fox has made very clear, isn’t undertale.

Fun fact: After Kris throws the soul in the cage, you can actually MOVE it around inside the cage while Kris moves by himself, symbolizing that you are no longer in control of the body. And that you cannot stop Kris from becoming another version of Chara in this AU...

*...It's horrible, feeling like you're trapped in a cage* I can tell Kris is talking about the "heart" being placed in a birdcage.

Don't know bout anyone else, but I still find it kinda insane they we the player are more of a "bad guy" this game from the moment we take control of Kris versus in Undertale where that "bad guy" role can only happen after we've had a few battles to determine our route. Chapter 2 is gonna be even crazier when it rolls around. Oh yeah, excellent voice work. Been binging old comic dubs of UT back when the fandom blew up thanks to Deltarune. Honestly great to see the talent hasn't gone away over the years

Well, we don't really know what's going on. We're kind of pushed into Kris, presumably by the force that also made us create an avatar. I don't think that makes us a bad guy, since we had no control over it. I _guess_ overwriting Kris' save file once we get into the Darkworld could be seen as "bad", but it's more an act of careless indifference than evil intent. Most people (myself included) didn't even notice that they were overwriting an existing save file on their first run. In general, I think we don't know enough about this world to jump to moral conclusions.

Cesar Pena Yep, it kinda has mixed feeling Kris and we are a bad person. Kris from the start is a bad evil child and just acted nice cuz we make them act nice. In a sense, it's still irnoic Ralsei and Susie like the we as Kris, not Kris actual person are. Chap. 2 probably Asriel as main

Crazy theory I've thought up, but I honestly believe that the protag of the story is Ralsei. It would be a pretty neat role reversal in this game compared to Undertale. No spoilers but think about the situation with frisk and flowey in undertale, and Kris and Ralsei here. They are parralels beyond belief, just the roles are reversed.

She's a complex character, her experience in Deltarune was pretty similar to our (the player) experience in Undertale, specially if you played UT without knowing anything and ended with a Neutral Route in the first run. In my opinion, Susie has the potential to be the actual protagonist and the true hero, alongside with Ralsei and Lancer. Maybe, Ralsei will fight against Kris, with Kris (or whatever who they are) being the bad guy.

People says that the player has taken control of Kris in the end here. However, that might not be the case. Notice how, when you start the game for the first time, and name your vessel the same as yours, it says "OF COURSE, OF COURSE. OF COURSE, THEY ARE THE SAME". In other words, doesn't that mean you and Kris are the same entity? If it is, then it only means Kris regained control from "whatever" was controlling him/her. Of course, this would mean that the soul that was thrown to the cage was also Kris's soul, and not just a medium to control the vessel. A soul contains compassion and all other emotions. Multiple instances while playing the game, Kris shows signs of these emotions and acts on his/her own accord, without any player "input". Protecting Susie after the king boss fight, backing off from the closet (and Susie), kneeling to stop Lancer from being thrown off are some of the acts that Kris does on his/her own accord and out of emotions like love (not L.O.V.E.) and fear. Notice during the Lancer vs Susie fight, you can control Susie's soul (monster souls are seemingly red in this AU), but you cannot control her actions at all, HOWEVER, she can "hear" you. When you tell Susie to go left or right, she says "Kris, did you say something?". She did not say "who said that?", but specifically "Kris". I think this a big proof that we, in a way, are Kris. Our voice is Kris's voice, and vice versa. In conclusion, Kris did not lost control to the player, but Kris and the player regained control from whatever that was controlling the vessel. You could say the soul was "reloaded" there. This is just my take on it.

@Karami Lucipher From someone else's comment, it's also possible that whatever just happened is the angel from the story, notice how they stand on a conveniently placed Delta Rune? Rip the soul out, and then back on it? Though in Undertale, a prophecy speaks of an angel that will empty the underground, either by true pacifist as Frisk, or as an angel of death, the player/Chara (that itself is a topic that can go all day, so let's not. XD) Of course this angel in Delta Rune could be it's own thing, could be Chara, could be us, it could even be Kris himself. Personally, while I do agree that we control the soul, that's STILL Kris' soul, you don't just rip your own soul out, and still control your body separately, this isn't Kingdom Hearts. XDD So I'm thinking that maybe both Kris, and the player by extension got their control of the body taken, by what? It's uncertain. It's easy to say Chara, but I have a feeling that the knife, clothes, and eyes could be a red herring, for all we know it was just a nightmare, maybe foreshadowing? Who knows until the rest comes out and we get our answers.

@Karami Lucipher the comic seems to infer that it is chara, due to the red eyes. But either situation is possible. Personally i think there are three controllers at work here, kris is being pulled and pushed around like a puppet by two people, a force of pure insanity, a world scourge bent on leaving nothing left, killing even themselves in the process, and you, the player, being the supposed apprentice or bane of this entity of madness that is chara. The position that kris is in is one of helplessness, chained and shackled, being pulled apart by the two entities trying to sieze control of what was once a person. The player, chara and kris all in control of one corporeal form, and all trying to kill each otger over it.

I love this comic/dub. I'm sure this is the sixth time I've watched this. My favourite part is when Kris says, "I'm in control... ...of my emotions now." Just that subtle pause. It always just... I dunno. But I love it.

My god, the voice acting was just AMAZING. The editing added just the right amount of eeriness and setting up the tense atmosphere. The art obviously was LOVELY and I love Kris' design. Both of you, keep up what you're doing!

This is amazing!!! Ralsei’s voice actor is perfect for him, and your performance was amazing as well, along with your voice fitting an older-end Kris quite nicely! Phenomenal voice acting on both parts, not to mention the interesting plot and clever word play of the comic itself. An absolute masterpiece.

I saw the original comic before this, you dubbed this really well. Better than what I imagined it would be.

Ok, lemme tell you, I have not seen many subs and the ones that i have seen dont give me a good impression of dubs, but this right here gave me chills.

oh my god ... it's just gorgeous! .. the voice acting is just lovely, there aren't even any words .. (I love the semblance of such screams, evil or disruption)
