The Dark: Nature’s Nighttime World
For humans, darkness is menacing, forbidding, petrifying. It conceals the most dangerous and terrifying creatures on Earth, but it also holds some of the greatest, undiscovered mysteries of nature. Most animals are nocturnal, but they're seldom studied at night and rarely filmed in the dark. The Dark follows a team of wildlife experts on a mission to solve those wildlife mysteries. Braving the jungles and swamps of South America during the night, the team sheds light on previously unobserved creatures and strange behaviours, offering a new perspective on our wild planet.
Welcome to BBC EARTH! The world is an amazing place full of stories, beauty and natural wonder. Here you'll find 50 years worth of entertaining and thought-provoking natural history content. Dramatic, rare, and exclusive, nature doesn't get more exciting than this.

@@redactedname8228 spider hunting dear.
I grew up in Bolivia and we had trapdoor spiders. We were good at finding them, as we did when my grandma went down to visit us. The trapdoor spiders would hold onto the trapdoors very firmly and wouldn’t let us open them without a lot more effort than in this video. I don’t remember ever sticking around long enough to watch them catch anything. I was glad to find this video to show to my son since he has never seen one.

I was thinking the same thing but then again there's in-numerous amounts of insects out there and it must be pretty common for an insect to pass over their hole for the species to keep surviving. That said, I'm sure after an hour or so its "Oy Wally see if yas can wrangle up a cricket!"
@Jacob-eg3kv
3 жыл бұрын
Pretty common knowledge that these shows do that often. It's no big deal though, it is to show you guys how the spiders react to prey. Otherwise you could wait hours or even days and not see anything.

I mean if I were there I would literrally tolf them to do it XD I don't want to spend all night waiting for insects when I can just buy a box of crickets in a shop and feed the spiders myself :p
@namewithheldbygoogleforsec673
3 жыл бұрын
Possibly, but they also could have waited a long time, sitting and chatting amongst themselves, leaving the camera recording til an insect came along, and resumed watching, then of course when they've returned to the studio, they edit out the long wait. Maybe they waited a longish while, and when no insect had come along, they caught one and placed in nearby. 🙂
Imagine just walking along minding your own business when a giant spider suddenly lunges out of a hole that has just opened up next to you and grabs you.

You didn’t know TRAPDOOR spiders did that? Big oof. It’s literally in the name smh
Guy: "Yes! Got him!" Spider: "Um...thanks? I was just hungry, my man."
I remember seeing a Trapdoor spider feeding video on Reddit and the spider just stuck a few legs out of its hole and slowly dragged it inside. So as I and my gf back then didn't particularly liked spiders we challenges ourselfs to watch a feeding compilation. The first video was the same I already saw where it was slow. Little did I know they usually jump out of their holes to catch the bugs like it did in the 2nd video. My girlfriend screamed and ran away while I threw my phone away from myself. Was a nice moment ngl
😂 " ... did did did you see that ..." Amazing pure passionate reaction 😉 French Fan
Love this guy so excited can see his passion with animals
Summation of this video: * Crickets steps on redstone tripwire * A redstone signal gets sent to the trapdoor * Trapdoor opens * Cavespider feasts

There is is video where a trapdoor spider makes it's home. It checks multiple times if it works properly. It's surprising how a creature who doesn't have a developed brain and also has weak eyesight knows how to make such trap.
Just imagine if these were big enough to eat people. That's the stuff of nightmares 😳
I remember watching Eight Legged Freaks and the bit with Trapdoor spiders was the only scene that would really mess me up as a kid.
“Ooh look I’m on camera...oh hey guy over there watching with baited breath for something!” “Gotta look good for my close up” *Starts to preen* “There we go...I look good don’t I?...anyway, better be o-AAAAGH!” *muffled screams*
0:50 hey old man close the door when you leave and turn of the damn light!

0:50 CLOSE THE DOOR! What, were you raised in a barn?!
The way it tries to pull the door closed

"Look here.... here in this hole we have the elusive trapdoor human. When spiders walk by with doughnuts or rare video games it leaps out and snatches them. If we look inside we see he has built a perfect 3 bedroom apartment with 2 loans and a big screen tv. What a wonder of nature!"
Great video thanks
Imagine walking on the street and think "hey, better check out my phone" and then while you are in your phone you get grabbed by a giant spider in a fraction of a second and get dragged onto some building while it puts its fangs in your body and injects its venom to dissolve your internal organs and then suck it up. That's how it felt to be that poor cricket.

Yeah nature is really brutal and kinda fucked up, haha.
love his enthusiasm when the spider caught the cricket!!!
Spider: "My precious"
Cricket: Why do I hear Bizet's Toreador?
The spider KNOWS ITS DOMINANCE AND WONT LET AN INSECT EVEN GET CLOSE !
They’re perfecting their skills how is this possible!!
Perfection made by nature.
I love how enthusiastic the man is :3
I'm amazed and thank you, old man.
Reminds me of a ninja movie which I watched decades ago...
Insect : wait it's a trap Spider : it always has been
