Transpacific Economy with Singapore Airlines’ A350XWB | Vancouver - Singapore | June 2023

Singapore’s flag carrier, Singapore Airlines, was recently named “World’s Best Airline 2023” by Skytrax. However, this was amidst criticism of its cutbacks in service and such as their plan to roll out paper packaging for its meal services across its long-haul network. However, it seems that all that has passed. The airline recently made a record profit earlier in the year, and even made surprising improvements to its service such as free Wi-FI (from July 2023) and bringing back a side dish on long-haul flights.
With this in mind, where else should we examine Singapore Airlines’ flurry of improvements and a change of heart on the meal service than with one of their longest routes? Join me as I take a 16 hour direct flight from Vancouver to Singapore on a route that will soon be history. Will it be a good flight with the golden bird? Let’s find out!
NOTE* Singapore Airlines will no longer operate the Vancouver-Singapore sector from late September 2023, and there will be a six month gap before their Star Alliance partner Air Canada launches a service from Vancouver to Singapore in April 2024. Nevertheless, I hope this video provides you will sufficient information on what you can expect on a transpacific flight with Singapore’s flag carrier.

You should have asked for cup noodles as a mid-flight snack! They almost always have it

I took this flight in April 2023 and it was great. Didn't feel like 16 hrs at all, even though it was.

I really like your Vlog. Exactly what was your seat number/location on the A350XWB did you choose or were assigned for your flight. I have plans to travel on Singapore Airlines in the near future and the window view you had looked great. Thanks in advance.

One can't go wrong with flying on Singapore. Flying with them is really enjoyable for long haul services but I think in a recent survey they were #2 after Jal and just coming traveling flying on Jal from Asia, Jal 2-4-2 configuration just beat out Singapore IMO. Additionally, when selecting seats Jal even shows if there is a baby in that location.

Oh yes, there's a lot JAL does well. For example, seat selection is still free.....not all airlines do this...

YVR definitely much nicer than YUL and YYZ, all three of which I've been through several times. Very sorry that the BA A380 has stopped flying there as this was the last time I flew the LHR-YVR route.

SQ service between SIN and YVR such a worth to flying with and one of best airlines in the world and on the par with QR. But SQ decided to suspend YVR at the end of September 2023 and it will be replaced with AC which begins in April 2024.

Yes, it's a real pity! It would have been great if they didn't suspend this route as it's a really good option for Canadians to fly to Singapore without going through the US. Alas, what a sad loss till Air Canada returns with the route...

@@dexplorer_vids I think the reason why SQ discontinue YVR service is because the timing in YVR is pretty tight with just 2 hours turnaround and SQ is struggling to make the YVR-SIN profitable especially for the YVR transit pax such as from YYC, YYZ and YUL. After SQ ends YVR service, it becomes unserved for 6 months until AC takeover the YVR-SIN route. Perhaps AC have a better timing schedule for transit pax as they depart at midnight from YVR and arrives in SIN next morning day. AC just have 2 hours turnaround in SIN before return to YVR at morning same day.
