TransnetBW explains: How does redispatch work?

The #EnergyTransition is under way, leading to an increase in the challenges facing the #Grid. To enable the expansion of #Photovoltaics and #WindPower to continue, distribution grid operators skilfully apply all the available electricity generation options in order to avoid overloading the electricity lines. We explain what #Redispatch is and how it works, in order to safeguard the electricity supply system at all times in Germany and throughout Europe.

    this is an interesting and important video. However, it should be also mentioned that redispatch is very costly; congestion costs reached already 2,4 bn EUR by April this year for Germany as a whole, and are likely to go beyond 5 bn EUR. Therefore everything needs to be done to reduce those costs, and there are technologies available that can contribute very largely here: modular SSSC is one of those.

    What determines the price which generators are paid to turn down? Day ahead price? What is they are hedged longer-term at a higher price?
