Transitioning from Physics to Data Science - Gain the required skills in the COVID era

Ғылым және технология

It's never been easier to land a data science position with a physics background, however, one might be discouraged due to the lack of resources to help guide this transition. As in most areas of life, COVID-19 has severely impacted career changes and the job search process in general. Mohammad Soltanieh-ha, physics Ph.D., data scientist, and faculty of Information Systems at Boston University, will share his personal experience along with helpful resources for those making a similar transition in the time of COVID.

I'm Sohail from Pakistan, did MS PHYSICS but now thinking to do MS data science. can you suggest to me an affordable university offering a data science degree to students with having physics background?

Hey is it possible to do a master's in data science after masters in physics? Are you doing your masters in data science note since it's been almost 5 months after you posted this question...I too am a physics student and thinking of the transition... Would be glad if you could suggest something

@@bereniceg777 yes , its possible. data science is the most interdisciplinary branch among all disciplines

@@carti8778 I'd argue physics or math is the most interdisciplinary, since you can go into DS from Physics/Math more easily than going the other way around.

@@AstroPatel yes bcz physics (college physics) is generally harder than data science. But I would always suggest to study CS/applied math if one wants to work in data science.

@@carti8778 agreed. I say this as someone who just did their MS in physics and is not looking for a job in DS 😅. I have a lot of the mathematical foundations and a fair bit of experience with ML, but it's so hard marketing myself
