Fun fact: After this happened, the German Foreign Ministry protested against Japan, but Hideki Tojo brushed off the protests, saying "This was done out of natural humanitarian considerations.''

Which was ironic, given the genocidal behavior of Japan in China (which Sugihara also objected to).

If I recall correctly; Poland & Japan had a very good friendship and believe it or not when Poland declared war on Japan (due to allied pressure) simply deny the declaration cause even Tojo knew that Poland was forced into doing it

Also Japan had no antisemitic agenda during the war. In turn, Nazi Germany was also not officially at war with China.

Japanese and other East Asians know how smart Jewish people are and they all like them. Japan also remember that Japan got financial help from Jews for the Russo Japanese war. Japanese did not forget the favor.

@@user-td2jw9ze2c Japan is uniquely independent with relations to Arabs, Jews, Palestinians, Persians, and all the middle easterners and Southeast Asians. Japan is friend to Saudi Arabia, Iran , India, Pakistan, Israel , Palestine, Turkey the USA, all at the same time while they are warring among themselves. Yes Japanese love Jews but Japanese also love Arabs and Iranians, Indians and Pakistanis and Paletinians, Turks, etc. as well, like a mother who loves all her children although they fight among themselves. She only wishes that they all get along. Please remember the effect that Japan had to free all the Asian and Middle East countries from European powers after the WWII. Japan showed the world that non-white people can fight and win against white, European powers.

This is why the Japanese still maintain their honour despite all the horrors they have caused. He risked his position, his family, and his own life, just to protect the will of moral law. There are no mere words to describe such a man who had so much power yet used it only against himself.

They stayed in Shanghai til after the fall of the axis Powers the nazis tried to take the Japanese to hand Shanghais jews over multiple times but they said no since most asians especially Japanese did not understand anti semitism and why the germans hated them so much As World War II intensified, the Nazis stepped up pressure on Japan to hand over the Shanghai Jews. While the Nazis regarded their Japanese allies as "Honorary Aryans", they were determined that the Final Solution to the Jewish Question would also be applied to the Jews in Shanghai. Warren Kozak describes the episode when the Japanese military governor of the city sent for the Jewish community leaders. The delegation included Amshinover rabbi Shimon Sholom Kalish. The Japanese governor was curious and asked, "Why do the Germans hate you so much?" Without hesitation and knowing the fate of his community hung on his answer, Reb Kalish told the translator (in Yiddish): "Zugim weil wir senen orientalim-Tell him [the Germans hate us] because we are Orientals." The governor, whose face had been stern throughout the confrontation, broke into a slight smile. In spite of the military alliance, he did not accede to the German demand and the Shanghai Jews were never handed over. According to another rabbi who was present there, Reb Kalish's answer was "They hate us because we are short and dark-haired." Orientalim was not likely to have been said because the word is an Israeli academic term in modern Hebrew, not a word in classical Yiddish or Hebrew.the Japanese while committing war crimes like the rape of Nanking genocide really wasn't there goal conquest was and controlling the Chinese bread basket and natural resources.

This video only sets Sugihara in the spotlight.. !! This was half the truth of the incredible story in '40/'41

While most countries rejected Jews, Chinese consulate in Europe issued tens of thousands of visas to Jews to help them settle down in Shanghai. More than 20,000 Jews fled to Shanghai and lived there until end of the war, after the war they mostly migrated to the U.S., many years later some of them did revisit Shanghai and thank Chinese for saving them. 😂
