So you are meditating to find peace in life? Consider that you must understand what peace is **** If you don't understand peace you will not be able to find peace. Hint: defining peace is not in the dictionary. Cheers

@@ardentenquirer8573 oh 10 minutes is where I start to desperately want to move. Not everyone that meditates is searching for a deeper meaning in life. "Peace in life" is not something we find, it's the journey that we nurture and cultivate every day throughout our entire life. Meditation for me is a tool just like working out is a tool: I workout because it's good for my body, and I meditate because its good for my mind. I meditate to be more tuned in with myself and my adhd, to create a healthy daily habit, to give my mind a break from overworking all the time (trust me, it's exhausting) to practice not to be affected by my own inner chatter, for helping me wind down and sleep. And quite honestly I just love the way headspace approaches mindfulness.

If ever there was a rags to riches story, Uma is it. Quite literally she was grasped from the jaws of certain death when Dan & Kika rescued her and gave her a new life. Now they are doing it again and this time she'll shine like a new pin in all her quirkiness that they'll give her with the attention to detail that only they can bestow ... Best of luck, looking forward to the magic and the lessons we'll learn. Stay Safe & Fair Winds!! ☘

Not sure how they patch tires in America. But over here they vulcanize rubber onto the repair area. You can barely tell where the "patch" has been done. It's quite common and safe. Obviously we're having issues with these tires since they're old and only 2 ply side walls. But a $20 patch to keep the truck on the road is better than not driving while we wait for our new tires to get delivered.

On my keel stepped mast, I have a 1 piece wedge that goes all around the mast, then I sealed the cracks with a silicone based, marine caulk. The boot is something called "Tommy Tape" and is a 4" wide, silicone tape that is self-amalgamating (only sticks to itself). This has worked with no drips for the past 3 years. I'm looking forward to the rebuild.

How different the sailing experience is in the warmer & saltier waters :D Here in Helsinki, we take the mast and rigging off each fall and store the boats on the hard for the winter; only the sturdiest-hulled boats that can withstand ice are left in the water when the Baltic sea freezes over. Then the mast and rigging is put back on the next spring once the boat is in the water again. Leaving the standing rigging on for winter is sometimes done, but it's rare - for one thing, it's easier to cover the boat for snow if you don't have to go around a mast; also, you need to be a lot more careful with the cradle pads, because the mast has quite a lot of leverage and the force pressing the hull against the pads could be quite high in winter storms. So watching something that's routine in here, how it feels like for someone who hasn't done it in ten years, is very interesting!

Don’t forget to consider replacing all the electronic sensors and lights at the top of the mast before you put it back up. Also, you might want to check your in mast wires and anything else inside such as interior halyards, not that I’m sure if you have any of those, but you get my point. Easier to work on the mast while it’s on the ground then upright on the boat.

I got used to walking around deck with no shrouds one winter with the mast down. When I put the mast up again, I caught a cell phone on a belt clip on a shroud and in what seemed to be a slow motion movie, the phone jumped out of the belt clip, bounced twice on deck, and dropped into the water. That dead phone is still down there over 50 feet deep in the Chesapeake Bay. So be ready when your baby gets back to being a proper member of the aluminum forest. Also, this is the time to put in any extra running rigging, radar platform, halyards, cables for radio, tv, etc. good luck.

Not sure if it's been said yet, but it's not recommended to patch a sidewall of a tire.

Great sailing videos but I don’t do refits. Will sub again when you are under sail again. Happy refit. Capt John

Have you considered using a hydraulic ram to extend the dimple from the inside before reapplying bulkheads?

Which is why in Canada and the US it’s illegal to patch a tire sidewall.

The repair depends on where the leak is on the side wall, but a tube can be used, then use the repaired tire as their spare, or keep the repaired tire on rear axle.

Depends on how to patch it I suppose. If it's just a glue on patch, then maybe not. But if done correctly its seems to be just a strong as the original tire. It also depends on the damage. These are pin holes causing the trouble, not a large slash or puncture.

I love Uma but I've go to say, I'm really curious to see what you two can do with a totally different boat. I'm sure you will be done with renovation work for a few years after this but maybe you find a hidden gem somewhere that calls to you.

How long do you think the restoration is going to take and what is target date for setting out on the next big adventure. Just remember to do everything now, so you dont have these issues in the future to interrupt your sailing time.

This project is too large with too many variable to make any accurate estimation of completion. We've done many refits in the past and learned more and more from each. One of the main take aways is not to rush. Life is too short and working 100-120hrs a week isn't sustainable.

Getting rid of your sails/mast will definitely give you better range, although no longer transoceanic capable, it will be a better coastal cruiser.
