Transforming OLD Bathroom Cabinets to NEW SHAKER STYLE Cabinets | DIY FAUX Shaker Doors | NO Router
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Modernizing the look of our bathroom by updating cabinet doors and drawers to a shaker style look with limited tools and budget.
During our bathroom renovation, we explored various ideas to transform the existing cabinets. We considered having them redone or replaced but I was intrigued by what we could change on our own while saving money in the process. Since they were so old, we really didn’t have much to lose. In this video I share my experience and our experimental process of transforming our cabinets without specialized tools and a minimal budget.
Our process began with deconstructing the old doors, seeing what there was to work with, and going from there. The trial-and-error approach definitely made this quite a challenging experience. However, it gave me the opportunity to learn SO many new things (a few more than I expected, like how to strip paint).
Some of my take aways from this experience are that there are times when it’s worth investing in good quality materials and spending more time up front prepping (paint doesn’t hide as much as I thought it would). Overall, this was a very valuable experience and I love how the cabinets turned out.

** This project left me with a lot of extra paint. So, if you want to see me attempt to turn it into art check out this video! **

I did this with my kitchen as well. Came to watch a video because I kinda miss having a diy project lol. But just a tip for anyone doing this: strip the paint and sand the doors/drawers before you attach the shaker trim pieces. That way you’re not having to do it all by hand to get into the corners or tight spaces. 😊
This is exactly what I want to do in my kitchen. So much more affordable and gives me something to do.

Tysm for showing us this! Been looking all over for something similar bc i hate all the detailing in our bathroom cabinets! They get so dirty and are difficult to clean! 😭 I am hoping i can use my same cabinet doors and that i can make them just straight up *flat* and repaint with easy cleanup kind of paint 😅. Sounds like a lot to ask for but I'm hoping!! 🤞
I love both
You guys did a excellent super excellent job congratulations wow

Well done figuring out how to make the old drawer faces and cabinet doors work. After a project like this, You would probably possess the skills necessary to simply build new faces and doors in the future which would be much simpler/less steps. I bet this was a fantastic learning project.
Great job

I think in this case it would have been better to just buy all new plywood or MDF. There was so much effort that went into saving the old doors.

I think a plus side to saving the old doors is you wouldn’t have to make sure each door measures correctly and fits

@@patrickarchuleta9594 I really think glutamates get a bad rap. I use Accent all the time and I've never had a reaction.
This was such a helpful video! Can I ask, how does it work with installing the new handles to the cupboard doors, as the door is now thicker do you need aan extra long screw? Sorry if this sounds really stupid 😂

Usually new hardware (handles) come with both a short and long screw to fit thin or thick doors. You can find the screws at any hardware store.
What material are you using?
Hi, are these overlay hinges?

Did you paint your old hinges or get new ones?
