By far my favorite combiner of this line. Everything just, works so well. Even the straight repaints of Vortex and Blastoff look good to me. And that ball jointed combined head is just a treat.

I have to say this now :bruticus has been and will always be my favorite combiner

I always felt Bruticus should have been a little more dominant in the cartoon, considering how built for war he is. I know Devastator was the original but I thought Bruticus should have been pushed as the more powerful, or most powerful combiner (at least with firepower).

i've never thought about it before, but with the blades out like that it kind of gives Bruticus something like a melee weapon on his arm. That's a damn good idea.

Great review Paul!!! Next to Devastator he is probably my favorite. As a young child watching the G1 cartoon both he and Devastator were genuinely scary. I can't wait to have them together again bringing dread to the cervos of the Autobots on my shelf.

Bruticus is my favorite decepticon combined and the Combaticons are my favorite combined team behind the Arielbots

Great review! I love hot spot and defensor, so it's no surprise that bruticus turned out so well. Although, Vortex's garish yellow missles (what were they thinking there....) are a real eyesore. Totally agree on your combiner wars ranking! I will say, if you get Unite Warriors Superion and all of the perfect effect upgrades, he does turn out looking fantastic. It does end up costing 160-200 bucks though.

when I am able to pick up all 6 figures for this team I would keep Onslaughts guns on his back and use Shockwave as his gun as is intended...but since I won't be getting Cyclonus for Galvatronus I will instead use Decepticon Viper with this set as well...so he will be dual wielding two "pistols".

opti's preferred arm look definitely does give it more of a G1 look, though with it plugged in the other way you do have two forward pointing gun ports in his Onslaught hands Looking forward to the third party extra gun packs for this guy to come out

I bought a second-handed one yesterday, it's really amazing, and I discover the shoulder problem myself.

the Perfect effect set worked GREAT for me. No looseness and no issues.

Superion is the best CW combiner. Menasor is the worst, but can be fixed with the PE upgrades (which add ~$70 USD to its cost though). I think Bruticus/Defensor are in-between.

Superions thighs are way too skinny

My guess is the shoulder movement is just to differentiate him more from Hotspot even though it doesn't need it, but (clue being in the name) he is a brute, and so those shoulders give him some more bulk I think he should have over Defensor.

I agree with you - I like the shoulders down and not so bulky at the top.... the far better way to go

+Optibotimus Thanks for another great review Paul! This guy definitely is a nice figure! I have Onslaught and I was reluctant to buy the others but I think this is a must have set. Also, I noticed that the hips do some kind of ugly poses. Have you tried the Nonnef Productions hip ratchet gear replacements? I have them in Superion, Menasor and Ultra Prime and they do a pretty nice job. They add more teeth to the gears themselves providing more posability.

im sold, im not a fan at all of the cw combiners esp the deluxe sized figures, but bruticus looks pretty damn good. great job as always man and merry christmas and all the best in the new year.........thanks for helping me decide on many figures ive been interested in after watching ur vids and hearing ur honest opinions on the figures. i always thought swindle was a left leg (mostly cause my first experience with bruticus was the original rid's ruination)

With fan-moding you make the legs in a sort of A stance

Huh, just got mine the other day and I initially configured his shoulders same as you because it's what looked more natural. The seeming lack of any kind of locking mechanism like with Defensor was one of my few complaints, although now I see it's because I was doing it "wrong". Anyway, I fiddled around some more and found what I think might be a good compromise. I lock the shoulder into place, but Instead of tabbing Onslaught's forearms into place on top, I've rotated them around and have them hanging down off his back.

Out of the five Combaticons, this is how I would rank them; 5) Blast-Off, 4) Vortex, 3) Brawl, 2) Swindle and 1) Onslaught. Me personally, I'm only interested in Onslaught. Plus, I have plans to purchase unite warriors Bruticus within the near future

I fixed the leaning problem by attaching Shockwave to his back for storage. I knew making him back-heavy was the key I just needed something to put back there. I learned of the Shockwave thing last month XP I'm so behind on the times roflmbo!

I need only Onslaught and Shockwave to complete this guy. With this video, my next paycheck can not come sooner.

The reason that you're supposed to rotate onslaughts arms, is to insert Bruticus's arms.

This review is 9 months old, and this stock just showed up in Toys R Us in Malaysia.

That Bruticus has those hand guns to work with.

I actually like the feet hand gimmicks but wish they had some sort of ankle tilt.

I think the instructions have you rotate the arms down to plug in the arms and then your supposed to rotate them back up to lock everything in place.

why are the joints and hands and feet on the guys like Superion, Bruticus, Defensor and menasor so different to Devastator (who is the best out of them all)?

maybe one chest configuration is for display (not tabed in) and ones for play (tabed in)

Do you agree with me making a combiner wars wreckers (like Hasbro did in the fall of cybertron line) with all the combaticons mold

I really want Bruticus, Onsalught is already available in my country. But I think I'll buy de UW version because of the shuttle and the colors. I actually have the Hasbro version of Defensor which is great but i'm not sure if the Takara version is worth only for Groove, or better wait for UW Computron, it's not the same bike, but it is a retool of the Groove mold according to the teaser image.

Bruticus if your just displaying the torso no awkward shoulder is correct imo but in the full form I think he needs the extra shoulder mass

I just wanna see how they would look like with combiner wars bruticus torso instead of the WFC/FoC onslaught torso

Optibotimus, will you be reviewing the Unite Warriors line, like Grand Galvatron, or are you done with the Combiners line and moving on to the Titans Return line? Also, I think you should reconsider the PE hands and feet for Bruticus. They look and work great. The purple PE hands and feet also look really good on Bruticus and Menasor.

I know what to do. the instructions tell you to rotate them down, so that you can fit in the arms. what it's saying in combine mode, that you rotate them up, for bruticus.

Try haveing the arms up and folding the forearms around to the back on top of the guns

wanna copy the bruticus back cannons ? take the combiner wars ultra magnus tank gun , attach 2 silverbolt cannons on each side and there ya have it bruticus back cannon with a extra small one in the middle

If you want the shoulders to hold in place put them up word,follow the instructions.

Here's a fact about why they're going to release shockwave as a gun for bruticus. the g1 series bruticus actually grabbed shockwave in gun mode and used him as a gun and that's why they did that

great review Optibotimus, bruticus does look really sweet. for me both Superion, Defensor looks the best and bruticus is no exception, however any combiner that shares the menasor torso mode looks terrible. sometimes i wish Hasbro would use HotSpot or onslaught mold for a better torso mode. btw , when you tab the chest-plate wings on the shoulder slot properly (like what is intended to be), is it possible to move the arms around and place them down so there not ending at the top?

or trying to mount a horse or something. i will never understand what made Hasbro do that..thing...as a torso mode. the only thing that comes up on my head is they tried to recycle the look of the PCC which most of them that made the torso ended in that form. However i really wouldn't mind to see hasbro bring back only the PCC Grimstone but as an update version for the CW or TW and big as the rest or as big as Devastator, i like that character.

If the Bruticus set ever comes to my area i'm gonna have him in the Swindle/Brawl arms version as I like the fact I have a cannon mounted on his arm (possibly on his right arm), that's why I like the scramble city style as you can mix it up how you like.while I have grown up with the old G1 transformers I've never owned any of the combiners as a kid so i'm not too fussed about which bot is which limb, I do own a G1 Menasor and Devastator and I have the RiD Ruination version of Bruticus and excluding Devastator I have the limbs to what I like so I don't mind if its not tv accurate.

How much did all of this Bruticus cost?

I hate the I'd number on onslaught... anyway to remove it?

I was a bit standoffish on this Bruticus after how much I really disliked the FOC version....and honestly, was pretty happy with my 3rd party combination from Fansproject. But I bit the bullet and I do like the group. I mean I like them all surprisingly! It's to the point w here I've boxed up all but my Maketoys Giant and Fansproject Intimidator cause that's still just an awesome Devastator variant and love how makeshift Intimidator is and have ZERO interest in the Hasbro titan scale or the Menasor version, it just doesn't work. I also went with the shoulders up so the shield tabs in, adding better secure limb placement, the look doesn't bother me at all. Gotta say, overall, I'm impressed.

I keep the shoulders down because it snaps in there for defensor

Well, Ruination was a repaint of Bruticus from the start, so...

What is that song that you start with this video?

I think they should release all of the Constructicons engineered into deluxes...Hook and Long Haul combined into torso mode should be roughly Voyager size. that way they will be more in scale (with the other teams, I doubt Devastator is really that huge compared to the rest of the combiners), cheaper, and also sold individually so you're not paying a lump sum for a set.

What do you use for your background

fold up word then combine then fold the wing things. I don't do it to defensor.

Watching this makes me want to win that Gemr giveaway more and more each time :P
