It’s so hard to choose honestly. They both look great for different reasons. I saw this comment somewhere else, but it seems magic square is replacing MP10 whereas TE is competing with MP44.

Yeah, i'm finding that out. I would love to just say screw it and get MP-44, or try to find an MP-10 that isn't stupidly overpriced. Sadly I think it's going to come down to one of these guys. I think over all I like Transform Element with the only things I wish he had was the bulkier lower legs of the Magic Square and I wish the feet weren't on the side but rather the middle like it should be, the good thing is I could get the second head which is better for Transform Element with the second release. For the Magic Square, one of the few things I wish was that he didn't have the "baseball cap bill" looking thing on his head. I do prefer the colors of the Magic Square though. The Transform Element looks more toyish while the Magic Square looks better. Tough choice, kind of leaning to Transform Element based solely on the facts that I really wish Mp-44 was cheaper so I could pick him up and also because I honestly think this one might be easier to get a hold of. The Magic Element is kind of falling in to the Mp-10 realm where it's either harder to find than I would like, I'm not sure if it's a crappy bootleg instead of the proper figure, or some jerk is charging too much.

@@joeydahl9594 Why not get a Wei Jiang MPP10? It's an excellent figure, and considerably more affordable than getting the official release. Much bigger too and the way they made his lower legs that little bit longer than MP10's eliminates the monkey arm issue the original had. Really good quality figure; probably even better quality than the original. I got two of them on eBay. One to mess around with and the other theoretically for display but he's still languishing in his box😃

TE Optimus: the undernourished guy who wants to show you his pog collection. MS Optimus: the bodybuilder guy who wants to crush his enemies (and not hear the lamentations of the humans).

If the transform element had an ab crunch it would be no competition to me, but I do love my articulation.

The second release of the Transform Element comes with a second optional head that is much more G1 looking, actually looks similar to the MP-44 head.

I found it very interesting that the kids like the TE version which is more cartoon accurate and the adults like the MS version which I also like because it's a little more stylized. I like these videos. I think you do a pretty good job of being objective and showing where one loses points vs giving it the point because you like it better. I'd like to see a cyclonus vs vid xtransbots vs fanstoys, Bad cube vs takara lambos, unique toys vs zeta toys bruticus. Thanks for the videos

Great and detailed comparison! I like the family interviews a lot as well (I believe in another video you asked some questions to your father, which I really enjoyed). Magic Square's elbows are double jointed and get you better than 90 degrees of bend.

Thanks for the amount of time you put into your Sit Down Saturdays. Your break down on these Primes are pretty much in line with how I’ve viewed both releases. What surprised me, though, is that I’m even more excited for the Takara v3 after watching. The muted finishes and lack of paint on both leave me wanting more. Thanks again for the deep dive.

I think it’s also worth noting that while MS-01 has a thigh swivel, the leg articulation is better on TE-01. MS-01 cannot bring the legs 90° forward although, I do prefer the leg ratchets on it. Also, MS-01 has waist articulation due to the hinge system but, I feel it’s only due to being necessary for the transformation and it breaks up the sculpt. I love both, I own copies of both but, I prefer TE over MS. I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with either figure. Pick them both up, if you can.

What sells me on Magic Square is the Leg Sculpt. I like my MP figures to be a good blend between G1 toy version and toon version.

I just got the TE 1 With the new head I'm very happy with my choice

Thank you for making it easy to identify the bots throughout the video (labeling and consistently keeping them on the same sides) and not simply calling them by the brand name. It's one of my pet peeves with comparison reviews (specifically thinking of a few of the 3P Omega Supreme comparison videos I saw) where they aren't clearly labeled and the reviewer will simply call them out by name without as much as a point to which one they're referencing. Then, you get halfway through the video and can't remember which bot was which. Thanks again.

An unbiased opinion is still an opinion nonetheless which by definition comes his personal preferences. The “unbiased” part means be is sponsored by neither MS or TE and that he won’t benefit by putting one above the other. Because when it comes to an objectively standpoint, both are so close that the only thing that‘s really the deciding factor is your own subjectivity and what you prefer in an optimus figure.

I still like the TE-01 better. The other one is just too beefy for me. And te I feel fits more with mp36 because of the style of hands and bottom legs

Thanks for really getting into this. The hard part is that these guys are so evenly matched. Only thing I know for sure is that MP-10 is going into truck mode for the rest of it's existence.

You chose MS. You're kids chose TE. You're wife split. Look to MS, feel to TE. Personally I'm split. For everything I like better on TE, there's something else I like better on MS. Based on multiple reviews, comments on those reviews, and forum posts I feel like the community is split between cartoon accurate VS. 90% accuracy w/a mature look. I'm sticking with MP-10 until something scratches all my itches. I'd like to see what Fans Toys can do.

I think TE wins for toon accuracy, and MP-10 still takes it on sophisticated look. I still prefer the toon/sophistication balance approach to MP, so I'm staying with MP-10. I might go for that electroplated version, if anything.

I think the takeaway here is that they're both pretty fantastic and you can't really go wrong, so just pick whichever one you think looks best (or both, which I plan to do, just because).

This was the video I needed! THANKS! Seeing them side by side I'm gonna go with MS, even though I like TE silhouette better.

the way the transform element faceplate curves up into the brim of the helmet, reminds me a lot of RiD 01

I would like to have heard the mention that Transform Element hides the waist parts in alt mode versus mp10 and magic square leaving it out. Awesome comparison as always.

Love the comparison videos! I was in for the magic square figure until this vid, where as you said where personal preference matters. I really connected with the transform element. I can’t help the connection I have with a toon accurate representation on display even with MS being better in other categories. Interested to see how MP-44 turns out but I can’t rationalize the cost for that figure.

Just for the record: nice necklace. I imagine one of your daughter made you wear it. I have a six year old girl and I get stuff like that thrown at me all the time.

Good analyzing both products. I too like MS over TE (slightly), but you cant go wrong with either so I got both.

Thanks for the review. I just picked this up on eBay. Although I will keep him in Bot Mode, TE-01 has the best Truck/Cab mode. With Magic Square and MP-10 you see his pelvis in Truck mode which ruins the illusion of being a truck while Transform Element nailed it.

This helped me decide which order to get them in ( as opposed to which to get instead of the other)...Magic Square, THEN Transform Element..on a bit of a note, there have been times where Optimus had the gray stripe in truck mode in the animation ( very rare but in at least one episode that was how he rolled)...I do like the no stripe look of TE ...great job as always.

It's been almost a year since all this uproar, and I'm finally picking one of these guys up. I know I'll never be able to justify MP-44's price tag, and I've only ever had the Walmart release of MP-01 and a YotH MP-10, so it's always felt like I didn't have a "real" MP Prime. After a lot of deliberation, I'm going with the metallic version of Magic Square's offering. Bobby, your videos covering each of these separately and this "VS" video helped me considerably.

Bobby, can you do an updated versus of the MS01X+ and TE-01 Cell shaded?

Thanks for this! So close to pulling the trigger on the TE but holding out for some news about their updated version.

Good job Bobby. I like how I knew your preference but didn't see it creep in for the objective issues. This decision was probably the most fence sitting I have ever done before landing on TE. Glad I went that route but really wish to head was the MS one.... and those knee swivels....

I had the Ms and Te. I have to disagree with Bobby. The TE definitely has the better presence. It’s why both kids and his wife pick it out of the two. TE’s proportions works better in relation to MP36. (Smaller upper body to leg length and width). As far as materials I just keep asking myself if the build was switched meaning if MS had TE’s build would the transformation be a bear? And vice versa. I think if TE used the same plastic all around as MS, its transformation would break the thing in half.

MS if u push the elbows more u get double bend. U should of given it to Ms too. Try it out

Dope video Bobby, even better than the last comparison. I'm still undecided on which to get MS seems like the better choice but it's so similar to MP-10, while TE version looks SOOooo cartoon accurate but it's only from the front. I'm not a big fan of chunky Optimus, but I like the ab crunch.....ugh I can't decide

Just an oddball question… but do any of the 3rd party add on kits (like the BB7 EP02A Enhancement Upgrade kit for TAKARA MP10 Optimus Prime) work on any of these figures? Stupid question… but you never know. I haven’t seen anyone mention it. I just ask because I can see add on kits being made for these guys later down the road.

I had bought the Magic Square first but it wasn't toon enough for me so I decided to buy this one and I have to say I like it much more than Magic Square. You have to see both figures in person to really see how nice the TE version is. TE has better toon proportions and some real nice heft to him. Both are nice but I kept the TE version.

I have the Transform Element. It comes with two different heads, one more season 1 and the other more of a season 2 look. Apparently the spacing between the eyses changed.

You missed the double joint on the MS elbow for the full range.

Great vid man. Im still on the fence tho. I think I'm gonna stick to my MP10. They aren't so amazing I need to replace it.

I think that TE is way more appealing in the can back area in alt mode (the trailer hitch area). MS is downright goofy in this area (just like MP10). Very good comparison video.

The second hinge on the magic square is not redundant. 1 it's in a more natural location then the other, and 2 the two hinges work together and get you the full curl.

After watching your breakdown review on these two 3rd party Optimus Prime. I wonder how MP44 stacks up just by looking at the official product photos?

You say the secondary hinge on the magic square elbow is meaningless, but combined with the primary hinge (which gives you 90% of bend) when the "meaningless" elbow rotation is in the right direction, the two together give you a full range elbow bend that goes further than the TE version.

for the Magic Square, you can extend the shoulders to make them go to full 90 degrees, and it has 2 hinges for the elbow

if you were to merge both ops together you probably would have the perfect prime :D I went for the magic square version myself as to me it had more personality and charisma than the TE version, but im sure both versions will be the superior to the overly priced MP 44 :D

I also think MS is similar to Open and Play, encouraging messing around with the figure without worry of paint chipping

It seems like only a slight articulation edge, shade of color, and blue underroos separates them. But I will give TE the better truck mode and matrix chamber over MS.

The MS version has a super accurate ab crunch because it demonstrates that too much ab crunching will expose Prime's spine LOL

I went with TE and i love him. I see some people putting mp-10 head on TE and it looks great. MS is too chunky imo.

Toe tilts make for instability. They look cool for posing though. Too bad their isn’t a method to lock them until needed.

I'm leaning towards TE because of cartoon accuracy and complex transformation, both which are high on my list of stuff to care about. Neither nails the paintwork the way I would prefer, but MP-10 didn't either.

Well, like you've said before, it comes down to the face. And I like the face better on Magic Square. But, then again, I'm the one who has to look at my collection every day so there's that too.
