    I think you misinterpreted the root in Hebrew examples. hi- is a prefixal part of the transfix and it's x that reflects the first consonant of the root, so it's KTB -> hiXTiV, the same in cas of haXTaVa.

    Would you call the word roots themselves transfixes? Like "KTB" on its own? It must be, right? It's an affix just like the transfixed vowels, so the consonantal root is a transfix, yes?

    The root is the root. The transfix is what sits on top of it.

    ​@@Youcifer They are not affixes at all, technically or otherwise. A root can be morpheme by itself or as part of a stem. The root/stem relationship can complicate things a bit though.
