Transfer From Carboy To Keg With CO2 | Pressure Transfer to Keg With Low Oxygen Exposure

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Question from a couple of viewers prompted another variation on the transfer from carboy to keg with CO2. In this video I will show you how I pressure transfer to keg with very low oxygen contamination.

    Thanks for the vid Brian! Here's a quick tip if you use Fermonsters like I do, take a solid #10 stopper and drill 2 small holes in it. The racking cane goes in one side, the carbonation cap in the other. Then everything else is just as Brian demonstrated. You can also purchase the solid Fermonster screw on cap and drill 2 holes for normal sized stoppers if you'd rather go that route.

    I’m using the Speidel fermtors now because I hate racking with auto siphon and racking canes, I have used psi to move my beer like you did in the video I just find I use CO2 up so fast. Cool thing about Home brewing today is we have so many different options available to us now! Great video Brian have a happy new year Cheers 🍺

    This is a must with Hazy IPAs. When I’ve used this method, I’ve experienced two issues. 1. Dry hops and trub clogging the inlet to the keg. I’ve since started just running a hose directly into the keg and ditched the ball lock fittings. 2. The carboy cap leaking too much co2, which doesn’t allow enough pressure to build up to push the beer into the keg. I solved this with a series of hose clamps on each opening. I hope this helps anyone that experiences the same issues.

    I had the exact same idea, but didn't think about using the corny to sanitize the racking cane assembly. Although my plan is to put a valved quick coupling on the gas side of the carboy blowoff, and a valved disconnect on a pigtail to the racking cane (I'll probably do male on one and female on the other to avoid any possibility of connecting them incorrectly, although that is pretty unlikely). I will connect the carboy blowoff assembly (blowoff cap, racking cane, and disconnects) after pitching the yeast and connect a hose to the gas side quick disconnect to run into some sanitizer during fermentation. When I am ready to transfer All I have to do is switch out hose assemblies on the gas side for one that has a mating disconnect and has a gas ball lock on the other side, and connect another hose assembly with a mating disconnect and liquid ball lock on the other side (which is pretty much what you did in your video).

    I just used this process. Worked well other than the carboy cap I bought through Amazon. Not a very good seal. I had to hold it on the whole time and CO2 was leaking out. Had my tank set to very low pressure. Thinking there have to be better carboy caps out there.

    If you open the pressure valve while it's filling won't that allow oxygen to reenter the keg? I would instead get a one way plastic valve W a low cracking pressure from somewhere like US plastics and attached it to your gas side. This allows co2 to escape while keeping oxygen from entering.

  • @ShortCircuitedBrewers

    @ShortCircuitedBrewers
