These videos are awesome. I was shying away from using a school bus because I'm 6'2 and I also wanted to have a good r-value for the floor and roof. Your videos showed me exactly what I need to do, saving me tons of time and get the right interior height needed. Like many other people said you do great work.. Keep it up!

Awesome...thanks! Raising the roof has made it feel so roomy, I almost have about 8 feet of height now. It'll be perfect for a tall guy like you!! To answer your other question....that's a tough question since I broke it over a whole summer....but I would imagine if I had good help and all materials ready to go....it would take about a solid month to get to this point if working pretty hard at it.

Thanks Jeremy....it's episode 24. I'm thinking of maybe skinning the exterior in metal so it'll at least be much stronger than the fiberglass outer shell. I could put some rivets in it also to give it more of an industrial look like the bus.

Nice job. Can't beat free lumber. It's just a shame to see what some people throw away. Glad you rescued it. You have the walls foamed & the floor done-where are you going to run the electrical lines? You know what you're doing, so maybe I should just wait for that video. I'll be watching...

Hey, Wess... Question: Why did you use foam board instead of the closed cell spray foam as well for the floor?
@thomasbrustad55967 жыл бұрын
Free is good!
@adammacer6 жыл бұрын
Is there a particular reason why you didn't just glue the insulation to the floor and then the ply to the insulation and do away with the 2x4?.. It seems redundant to me and just creates cold bridges and air gaps in the insulation layer (this is the first time I've questioned something you've done btw!) :) Awesome work..

Adam Macer My guess is he wanted an actual frame to attach to. Plywood bonded to foam will not hold together. Wess did it the right way. Dude is a craftsman.
@adammacer

@@davidmueller980 Well, I'm a construction pro (and, I like to think, a craftsman) and I still think it's unnecessary.. Products are available that will bond foam to plywood very well - LePage PL300. It's also common to 'float' plywood floors over insulation with no adhesive (other than on the T&G between sheets) in homes where additional sound insulation is required. I can see that that could possibly be an issue in a structure that moves but it woulda been interesting to hear why from the horses mouth.

Adam Macer i suppose you could do it the way you like. I like the idea of the floor in a moving vehicle that could rollover in an accident, being attached to the floor. To each his own.

Question. When you are doing the walls or floors do you have to do a vapor barrier?
@michaelb80917 жыл бұрын
not sure if you 'll. see these questions. I have no fabricating experience here's a few questions. 1) why you don't Bolt the 2x4 runners to the frame. 2) what kind am size welder to use for metal work.
@TranscendExistence1111
7 жыл бұрын
Michael B I didn't want to put holes into the floor with bolts/screws. It would be a problem area for rust to develop and cause more rust holes in the floor. My welder is an older Lincoln 110v, with argon gas. Thanks...I hope this answers your questions.
