Trans Euro Trail - Wales on an Adventure Bike (Yamaha T7)
A solo adventure on the welsh TET with my Tenere 700.
I did the route from south to north, dabbling into Pembrokeshire for 1.5 days along some of the "Tetty" south west section. I veered off the TET mid wales as I was recommended the Elan Valley roads near Rhayader. It was so worth doing, especially on an adventure bike, as the roads were fantastic - this video doesn't do it any justice..
Next time I do this trip I will do a mix of camping & hotels because the accommodation was quite scarce & pricey up near Snowdonia. Instead of spending another 2x £160 night stays I decided to come home on Day 8 and save that money towards some camping gear & plenty of nights stay in the future :-)
I don't like pre-booking accommodation because it puts pressure on the days riding & ends up feeling like a time card rather than a holiday... I open booking.com / airbnb at roughly 6pm each day and head to wherever I can find, typically it's within 10 miles and below £90 per night.
*Apologies for my horrendously hay fever fuelled voice-over in the middle of the video lol

KZread is awash with stuff like this....but your video stands out more than most. Very nicely put together, subtle music, careful editing ( not removing all the struggles ) and accommodation reviews along the way. Definitely a slightly different format going on..and it works 👍 Makes me want to get down to Wales.
Great video. It's takes a lot of effort and knocks a couple of hours riding time off the day to set up all those shots but well worth it when you end up with such a nice finished result
Some great music on this video. Well shot and edited. Looks like you had a blast and kudos for tackling it on your own.
awesome taste in music. I need the playlist. So much Phillysound. And what's more, a wonderful video.
Love a bit of moto camping. Highly recommend a Jetboil Flash (the taller one) your gas, stand and stove all fit inside the cup for packing. So small and no worries about gas cans getting squashed. Boils water dead fast and I’ve got the frying pan attachment for doing a fry up in the morning. Used it lots for years, love it. Perfect for solo trips. Spend some cash on a proper ThermaRest air mat, avoid self inflating ones. They are heavy and don’t pack as small. Also get a sleeping bag rated for 10C under what you’ll actually experience to stay warm. Down ones pack nice and tiny, otherwise sleeping bag ends up being the biggest thing in your bags… Love the vids, thanks for putting in the effort to film it all!
I really love watching videos of Teneres going every ware and all the places I want to ride mine... Thank you
Amazing video mate. Just love the way you stop and set up the camera and go bake to ride. makes the whole difference and way more entertaining 👏🏻 I really enjoyed this, thank you. I'm amazed by how technical some of the UK trail is. Really nice.... cheers from Norway 🇳🇴

Absolutely loved your vid buddy. Really well edited. Glad you let the tricky stuff play through like the rocky uphill wheel spin section at the end. Thanks for sharing. I’m on an XT660Z Ten and it weighs a bloody ton to pick up on your own. Ps..there’s a cool gaff near Machynlleth call the ‘Boatel’ Airbnb to stay about £50 a night. It’s a boat on top of a mountain. Stayed up there with the bikes this Summer. Maybe next time you’re up that way. 👍
Awesome video m8, much braver than me, no way I'd attempt that solo on my T7 😱 subscribed and looking forward to the next installment.
Brilliant! a great insight into the wales TET - balls of steel to do some of that on your own!
Great video. Good to see the different types of terrain.
That was a good video. Really good footage. Watched till end it was that good Cheers from Australia
By gaw, that's as real off roading as it gets. Quite how you rode and navigated it is exceptional. WELL DONE THAT MAN!

What a beautiful countryside - rough ride mate! Congrats 🍾 and thanks for sharing. Keep the rubber side down 👍
Beautiful Trails and Beautiful T7 !! Can't wait to get mine !!
Great vid! Similar terrain to what we have on Vancouver Island- lots of ledgy, wet, sharp rocks. I use an MSR Whisperlight stove. They are small and efficient. Thanks for putting the time in to create!
Nice work! I'm impressed by your commitment to the time and effort required to make all those offbike shots, especially from the other side of water crossings.
Really good music in the backround. Soul for my soul!!!
Great little video that 👍really enjoyed it
Great video and well ridden. That T7 is a big beast. Nice choice of music too👌
Great video and great riding. Enjoyed the music as well! Look forward to the camping version of the video!

Hey Chris - thanks for the kind comment :-)
Beautiful video and awesome ride. The T7 can handle anything!
You and the T7 made that look (almost) easy What a great ad for the bike
Nice one 🤙. Looks like a banging trip
Excellent video! Some of those sections were a bit of a challenge for a big bike on your lonesome, so well done. Good that you included some of the sections where it didn't quite go to plan 😅😅. Every day is a school day on the trails. For camping stuff, Paul Messner is an absolute guru, and "mad or nomad" is also great. Good luck with the camping 👍
Great Video. Thank you for taking me on a ride to the UK.
Awesome footage! Thanks for the effort mate!
Top video and well done riding the best bike 😉 up those steps and through the water on yah own 👏 I like you video style and appreciate the effort you made in getting all the different angles, makes it an enjoyable watch, cheers 👍🏻

What an inspiring journey mate. Definitely in the higher section of my bucket list. Cheers from a tet driver from the Netherlands.

Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for all the effort making this great vid. Obviously, you're a good rider but, I was surprised how good that Yamaha is. Many thanks.
Fantastic film! Great bike...uncle's, too!
Great video! Awesmoe escenaries and serious off-road skills (+ guts).
A genuinely instructive video and respect for doing it solo on a 200kg plus bike. I'm planning this with mates on smaller enduro bikes, having just done TET Portugal on a 701. Well done for having the patience to do all the videos.

Excellent video thanks. Wales looks a bit much for my skills mind. You make it all look so controlled and easy.
Really nice video with cool captures. I know what it takes to solo document a ride like this. The trail looks challenging at many places. Keep it up!

Can't wait to join in.
Enjoyed your video very much good job negotiating the water and rocks solo, that was impressive. Looked rougher than the Eastern part of the TAT here in the US.
Great footage, awesome tunes 👌
Nice riding and good pace plus a lot of effort in filming and editing results in a very enjoyable Video. Thanks Mate! BTW: For 160 i would sleep at the trainstation ;D
Thoroughly enjoyed this! Great editing also! Not the bombastic music like so many other riders and lovely mixed-in the T7’s sounds as well. As for stoves. I’d go for a trangia system with alcohol as it’s near silent and super versatile. Not the lightest or smallest though.
Awesome video mate! Soundtrack was amazing, music was great too ;)
I’m currently doing the TET in Norway on my T7. What a fantastic bike this is!
Very well ridden and great video. Thanks!

Literally the most mountainous part of the UK. Norfolk is flat.
An absolute stunner of a vid - thanks, loved all of it, I enjoyed every bit although aprticular fave bits were the footage of you looking for a way out of a water crossing or wet rock ascent - awesome stuff👌 just subbed 👍

Great video. You got some balls doing that solo on a big bike, there's some tough sections there.
Very nice vid. I especially liked the "On Any Sunday" music coming in at 21:45. I want to see more, so I subscribed. .
Up my neck of the woods, awesome video.
Dig the video style you have going. You mentioned stoves. Most everyone around here uses jetbloils, but I’ve liked my titanium firebox nano. No fuel canisters to puncture, can burn what you forage, or those little individual fuel packs. As a bonus, you can cook directly on it.
Really enjoy your video , cheers !
Well done video, and I really dig the music!
Great little film that. You found all good trails there. Brave to do the Strata Florida alone. Did it this year with 3 of us after some hard rain….. walked it first it was so deep!

That's one of the best UK trail-riding videos on youtube. Nice not to have dreadful cheesy music all the time. Wales looked tropical in some shots. Enabled me to see some roads and lanes I rode when I lived there.

I have had a few comments like this but I don’t think this is much in comparison to “itchy boots” for example, she goes around the world on her own and on top of that as a woman she faces more danger than us! Makes popping to wales for a week seem like a doddle :)
Great video. Haven't ridden in Wales for years, but Strata Florida was one of my favourite stretches. I thought I'd read somewhere that it had been closed down some years ago. Obviously not !!
going up the rocks at the end was quite fun to watch
Good stuff mate.. Check out tracks around Llangollen. I've been to Wales 3 year in a row pre covid.. Shame about high prices for accommodation. Camping sites are usually about a tenner. T7 is such a good bike, I upgraded to a set of yz450 pegs for offroad and will change to mitas tyres as my Pirrellis are nearly worn out.. Been up those rock slabs on enduro bike. Fair play on T7.
Great video! As already suggested - go for a Trangia system. I have been using them for 45 (gulp) years and they are foolproof.
Great video mate, some lovely looking trails and looks like a great route. I’m pretty local to the area so wouldn’t mind giving it a go myself. Gotta say you did well doing all that on the T7 quite a big bike for some of them lanes and rocky bits, you must be a pretty good rider. Hope you didn’t have to pick it up too many times 😂 maybe see you on some of the local lanes one day mate I’m around Bristol area. Cheers

You've got some cracking trails around Bristol on the James Higgs' (Great Western Trail) it was rocky as hell when I passed through there.
Great video! Quite different from the sandy tracks in the south of Holland.
Great footage
great vid mate
Hi Mattie, great videos, it’s helping me to decide on a Yamaha 700. So you have a bit of music playing from 7.51, me and partner want to find it…Shazam can’t. Anyway keep up the great work. Inspirational
I recommend Sea to summit x21 (folding Cooking pan, mug, and bowl.) packs down super small and can be used on gas cookers. And also grab yourself an MSR pocket rocket stove (or cheaper version) it’s insanely efficient and packs down small. Love mine and it’s such a great combo!
Cracking video.
Great stuff. A lot of effort went into this edit and filming all the action. Stand out music choices too.
Good effort mate..... I do a lot of Wales on my own too, all be it on a slightly heavier 1190 R and it's graft, and defo more cautious too... keep it up mate

Hey Russell - thanks for your comment :-) Yeah Wales is beautiful for it - great work doing it on a 1190r
I was enthralled by your video. Good on ya for setting up the camera for "solo selfies". Seems quite a challenge for the Ténéré 700. You rode it well. Would like to have heard about your bike mods, gear and how well they lived up to your expectations but thanks for the post-ride service review. It seems the price of accomodations increased as you went along. Is Uncle Paul carrying a picnic basket at 17:00? I love me some Crocs 22:52.

Thanks Neil I’m so glad you enjoyed! I’ll make a video on my next trip and touch on all of that :) Uncle Paul was carrying his recycling box that he has to leave out the front of his road on a certain day of the week. 😂 Although a picnic box would have been way better

Look forward to More brilliant bids. Subscribed from a Welshman😁
