    Great video buddy, and nice to see the raw footage. It looks like your bike is bigger than normal too, which is good to see, all is possible when you have some friends to help dig you out of the crap when it arrives. I am planning to do this on my Africa Twin, your video was invaluable, now i know i'll struggle in some places, but will get through. As always, when in doubt, gas it out!! Ride safe man, keep the rubber side down.

    Great video! My only comment is that you were breezin’ down that dirt road at a good clip, and as an experienced rider you can get by, but I grew up in western Kansas riding those surfaces, and they can be tricky. Those roads can shift from hard, dry and smooth to rutted, deep sand, rocks and mud with no warning. Also you need to always assume the next hill or curve will feature some drifty old farmer or high school kid on the wrong side of the road or an old cow who just broke out of the pasture and is catching some sun right where you need to ride. Also water covered roads can conceal really deep washouts that can swallow you whole. Have fun but always come home in one piece. Also, that windshield is pretty hard to see through.

    Big gap from long canyon out of Moab to Fishlake national forest... Did you take the Yamaha through black dragon canyon, eagle canyon, and the blue route in Fishlake national forest or do a highway bypass? Great video but a crash bar go pro mount might have been better to avoid the windshield in the middle.

    I would do the ride all over again on the Tenere , I couldn't recommend it to someone else without knowing their riding skill , most of the trail is easy , but there are a few spots here and there where you have to know what you are doing off road. Big rocks , mud , sand and some steep climbs and descents.

  • @baisleyde

    @baisleyde

    6 жыл бұрын

    Couple reasons , The large screen GPS mounted to the dash is not waterproof so I had to remove it when it rained. When I can use both I like to keep the dashboard unit zoomed out so I get a good overview of the area , and keep the handlebar unit zoomed in close so I can see the upcoming corners and turning points. Also when going on a ride this long into areas I have never been , its always a good idea to have a backup.

    I never had any problems finding the route, at the point in the video where I came across that fence I was just winging it , it was Oklahoma so I figured i would just keep the bike pointed west , no need to follow any specific route it was just a grid pattern of dirt roads. I got off the TAT at Moab Utah , that is where I planned to. More time and new tires would have been needed to continue west.

    I used mitas e07, they dont corner like a knobby but i can live with them. At end of ride the front still looked perfect, but 4000 miles of dirt rocks and gravel on a heavy powerful bike put a hurting on the rear, was still good enough for street and hard pack but thats about it.
