Trains at the new Reservoir station - Metro Trains Melbourne

In this video we visit the new Reservoir station on the Mernda line in Melbourne's north. Opening on the 16th December 2019, Reservoir station was rebuilt above ground to grade separate the notorious level crossing at High Street.
Here we see various Metro X'trapolis trains arrive and depart the station, and take a quick look around the station. Despite being predominantly a train video we do see a couple of buses too, which have been using temporary bus stops on Broadway until a new bus interchange is constructed. As we have a look around Reservoir things start getting weird; we see an unmakred cop car nab someone, a marching band and angles... It was also fairly smokey outside due to the ongoing bushfire crisis in New South Wales, drifting the smoke all the way into Victoria.
The level crossing at High Street was one of the worst in Melbourne. The crossing was situated at the intersection of five different roads in the centre of the suburb; High Street, Spring Street, Cheddar Road, Broadway and Edwardes Street. Over the years it has had countless near misses and a number of incidents of trains colliding with cars.
As of December 2019 the platforms themselves are essentially completed with most of the seating, shelters and other facilities fully constructed. However there's still a lot of work to be done as construction of the station entrance and facilities including ticket counter, waiting rooms, toilets, bus interchange etc.. have not yet begun. Currently none of the lifts and stairs are operational, with access to the platform currently being provided by temporary stairs. Construction at the station will be fully completed by mid-2020.

zzz 1 agreed, however level crossing fans don’t like it, I like a little bit of level crossing but only in rual Vic?

New stations are always beautiful! You should go to Bell and Preston Stations!
Trains are also able to terminate in either direction too! How exciting! And because when they eventually do Bell station, they'll just straight-line it. No terminating capacity.

Yeah Reservoir Station is very iconic, I also like the new elevated Bell and Preston stations as well and I am now looking forward to seeing the new elevated Keon Park Station opening in Spring 2024 this year! 😊
Wow how my former neighbourhoods of Preston. Thornbury Reservoir are changing. So glad they grade seperate a that road. It was annoying and a nightmare to pass through. I know Murray and Bell that are closer to parents house will be grade separated too can't wait.
I don't know if anyone else noticed but the set arriving at the 6 minute mark has the updated "Metro" text on the space between the cab door and the first carriage door. Is this the first older set out there running with this?

Thanks for sharing this video, but l not sure if you filmed any city bound trains coming up the new viaduct going across High St. I may have to watch it again

That part of the station was blocked off by the temporary stairs at the moment so I didn't see trains coming up the viaduct from the north. You should be able to see trains from there once the station is fully completed.
In saying that grade separating train lines is a great thing. There is something unique and special about being stopped at a crossing and forced to watch a train go by. Let's say it's m a bit like forced train spotting, if only for a moment you may consider the train passing by.
Note to non Melbournians how we current and former Melbournians pronounce Reservoir not as Reservoir that one non Melbournian may expect but as Reservoir as a Melbournian would😁😁 Oh and we pronounce Melbourne differently too 😄😄

Try telling that to the DVA onboard the train that stupidly pronounces Reservoir the interstater's way.
