Trains at Nunn Street Level Crossing, Benalla (ft. Teardrop Bell)

In this video we visit the Nunn Street (Midland Highway) level crossing situated in Benalla on Victoria's North East line. The level crossing is notable for featuring an old McKenzie & Holland teardrop bell on the southern side; being the last level crossing on a Victorian mainline to feature this type of bell.
In the video we see a couple of Pacific National freight trains pass through. We start with 1MW2 with NR89, NR51 & LDP008 with a northbound container/empty steel train. Around half a hour later we see 1GK5 with 8231, BL30, BL33 & 8124 on an empty grain train heading to western Victoria. At the time of filming the North East line was running single track between Benalla and Seymour, with 1GK5 having waited to cross 1MW2, and also conducted a crew change at the platform. I believe this is the first time I've caught an 82 Class leading a freight train on film.
Around an hour after that we see 7SM2 with NR67, 9321, NR52, NR1 & 8184 with a southbound loaded container and steel train. We don't see any passenger trains on this occasion with buses replacing trains due to the COVID-19 border closure with New South Wales.

It certainly looks different after being repainted, I think this is the first time I've seen an 82 that isn't in the Freightcorp livery.

Impressive train lengths with the first intermodal having 109 vehicles/platforms and the second 85, while the grainy had 45 hoppers. Well shot Sir!
Those are really long trains.
Nice video, the teardrop bell is one of the things I will miss about Benalla when I eventually move.

Great video your getting a nice range of videos of crossings which is really cool!! I filmed this crossing in July And I’m pleased that ARTC Havn’t replaced the last active teardrop on Victorian mainlines! It’s also astonishing it’s lasted so long as it’s a cast iron variant which was the first teardrop type produced
There used to be quite a few Teardrop bells along the Northeast line until recent years. Some of the ones that come off the top of my head include: Wallan-Whittlesea Road, Wallan Down Street, Longwood Balmattum Siding Road, Balmattum Station Entrance, Violet Town Cowslip Street, Violet Town Palmerston Street, Baddaginnie Witt Street, Benalla Old Hume Highway, Glenrowan High Street, Wodonga (had two of them) There were also a couple on the Bandiana branch: Lawrence Street, Wodonga Thomas Mitchell Drive, Wodonga Unfortunately, all of these are no longer in service due to either crossing upgrades, bell replacements, or were eliminated during the Wodonga Rail Bypass.
At 5:52 you can hear that the teardrop actually slowed down a little bit That's strange... :|
