Harshan U.S. 1995 We have mostly Diesel lines but most Mainlines are electric lines to major stations. There were some strikes on this day and trains were delayed waiting for train staff.

@@StarlifeStudios Ok. But I alone saw it around London. In rural areas like this one, I mostly see diesel lines. I meant that. If the electrification is too expensive can they put electrification on the tracks like for Tubes, Overground et cetera?

Harshan U.S. 1995 Like you said, most lines in London are electrified. There is only one station in London without electrification - Marylebone. The Tube and Overground are already electrified.

Harshan U.S. 1995 I believe the CrossCountry strike on this day was due to working conditions and contract agreements.

I wish I had the chance to! It’s just too far north for me to get there. I’ve planned to go to Carlisle and the Settle line for a while but won’t be this year I’m afraid.

@@RickyNowis We are very quickly entering that phase with 390137 now completely white. I think people will still call it Virgin Trains for years maybe even decades to come. I still hear people say Virgin CrossCountry..

I’d love to. St Pancras is extremely tight on security and they often patrol the platforms. I’ll send some emails to see if I can do it soon.

@@StarlifeStudios I know if you are filming on the EMR side of the station they are perfectly fine with it, as long as you are out of the way of customers getting on/off the trains.

Yeah there's about 13x 2 carriage class 170s. Soon to be only 7x 2 car carriages, as 6 of them will receive a centre car from WMR.

@@StarlifeStudios Probably down to the number of customers on that route when the 170's were ordered back in 1998 (800M annual journeys in the whole of the UK vs 1.8 Billion in 2018-2019[125% increase]). 2 carriage trains were deemed enough in 1998. Pre-covid, 2 carriage trains aren't enough, example being the Nottingham to Cardiff route. I travelled this route and you can pretty much guaratee that it will be full and standing from Derby upto Birmingham. It doesn't help that most of the platforms on this route are only suitable for 3 carriage trains, and with the 170s having no gangway, XC can't couple 2 units together as their 170's don't have SDO added to their units.

Hi Jacob, Interesting stuff. I can say for certain that XC 170s do have SDO. My trains at Water Orton video shows four car services on both routes. I have also known 5/6 car 170 services to operate regularly as well.

@@StarlifeStudios See I always thought the 170's had SDO but one of the XC guards said they didn't. I assumed he was right at the time and never really challenged it. I have actually just seen your Water Orton video today. Back in June it was halve the journeys because of covid so pretty much 4 carriages was the norm for both routes as services was 1 every 2 hours. So clearly SDO does exist. I have actually seen a few 5/6 car 170s in services a few years back, i believe a football special was on, so it was sort of a express service stopping at stations that can handle 6 car trains.
