Trains and Trolleys of Philadelphia 2019 (Transit of Philadelphia)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

All kinds of transit can be found in Philadelphia, from the mighty subway: elevated and underground, to trams, light rail, heavy rail, bus and trolleybuses and much more.
Unfortunately Rt 15 and 101, 102 were not in operation: buses were running on the route on August 10.

SEPTA deserves more recognition as a transit organization. But it also needs more funding.

As much as I love Philadelphia, when I see this, I think of the "boxiness" of our transportation systems equipment. The mega cities in Asia may have borrowed the inventions of W. Europe and America, but their execution of those technologies is so 21st c. They think completely outside the Euro/American box, and the results are stunning to look at,

Boxiness is just an American aesthetic in trains. Nothing wrong with it, the trains still have the same engines that european and Asian trains use

You dont really think of the USA and public transport in the same sentence, but this video shows when they do it well, they do it very well. That single rail car was cute. I couldnt make out if it was fuel or electric?

It's 3rd rail electric. It gets quite fast in some stretches. I clocked it at 56 mph (90 km/h) when I was on it a few months ago.

Public Transit (as they call it in the US) in big cities is often comparable or even better than public transport in European countries. Unlike in Europe, they are not as fond of regular schedules (e.g. a schedule based on 15 or 20 minutes service), which makes them more flexible. While in Europe agencies will often prefer crowded (crush loaded) services (because they would have to go up to the next cycle, e.g. from every 15 to every 7.5 minutes, which is expensive), in the US they simply run every 13 or 12 minutes once a certain threshold of passengers is surpassed. Of course, in smaller cities (generally less than 1 Mio people in the metropolitan area) public transit is often abysmal in the US, with infrequent services and short service periods. Here European cities often massively surpass the US transit agencies...

@@sepruecom Well. I'd say in East Coast big cities especially. Wouldn't call transit in big cities like LA, Houston, or even Seattle, etc. remotely good. Especially accessibility wise. (And here I don't mean ADA or stuff. I mean what neighborhoods/areas does a transit system go to). And even here in the East coast it's kind of a problem. Including shown here in Philly. There are parts of the region, even the city, where you don't really have good transit options. I think that's where places in EU and Asia do way better

Hello from Lebanon County Pennsylvania. Thanks for your coverage of SEPTA in the Philadelphia area. In your zeal to show every type of bus which runs there, you missed two entire classes of streetcars which operate there. There are double-ended Kawasaki streetcars which operate out of 69th St. Terminal to Sharon Hill and Media on the lines of the old Red Arrow system. Also, there are refurbished PCCs which operate on the number 15 line streetcar (Girard Ave.) which run east-west completely across the city. These cars, first built in the 1940s, are some of the oldest PCCs still operating in regular revenue service anywhere in the world.

  • @austinwaldrop776

True. Dallas is forced to be more efficient in nature because it is ridiculously spread out and (for the most part) only seperated by small creeks and swamp-like forests. DART has ensured the cost effectiveness of each of their vehicles because they all travel hundreds of miles each day. Philadelphia is denser, and bennefits from bigger, 'fancier' busses and trollys in those dense areas since a high amount of people in that area are using what would be like 10 DART busses
